Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel scored 37 points in a steady if not spectacular performance. Runner up was the inconsistent Pat “The Rat” Hallion who scored 36 points despite numerable errors. Andy Phillips, “Pickles” Matz and Dick Cleland were the only other players to score 30 or better.

“Big Trev” Maxted earned the Mars Bar but as Trev left early Michael Shepley ate it for him.

Saturday Stroke Round Tests Arithmetic Skills

Eleven players (who obviously hadn’t checked the program) turned out for a stroke competition on Saturday. The winner was Matt Willis (again!) with a net 69. Runner up was David “Robbie” Robinson with a net 72. All of the other players probably had to take their shoes and socks off to add up their scores.

The Mars  Bars went to Richard “Pickles” Matz whose day must have been horrendous.

Poor Weather – Poorer Golf

Mark “Mouldy” Millward finally broke for through for a win on Tuesday. Unfortunately this does not represent an improvement in form, but rather the rest of the field fell back to his standard. Mouldy scored 30 stableford points, with Richard “Pickles” Matz runner up with 29.

While welcome rain fell for most of the day and only 4 players completed the round, the weather cannot be blamed for the poor scores. The ladies played a stroke round at much the same time and Glenys Pierce won with a net 73 (equivalent to 35 stableford points).

Russell (Gus The Good Guy) Wenzel took the Mars Bar.

Pickles Form Reversal – Stewards Inquiry Called For

Saturday April 16

From 26 stableford points on Tuesday to net 66 on Saturday. This incredible form reversal by Richard “Pickles” Matz requires investigation. Pickles stunned his opponents with a magnificent display of power golf combined with exquisite ball control around the greens. Runner up was the enigmatic Mark “Mouldy” Millward with what would normally be a competitive score of net 69.

The Mars bar went to David “Jack” Webster because 3 players failed to complete the course. I will not name these players but their names are listed at the bottom of the results, should you be interested.

Michael Shepley Begets Prize

Michael Shepley took no chances on Tuesday April 12 of losing in a count back. Michael spreadeagled the field scoring 39 and beating runner up, Neil Webster, by 3 points.

The performance of Richard “Pickles” Matz is causing some concern, as he took the Mars Bar by a comfortable margin.

Gus The Good Guy Wins 1st Event of 2020, But Scores Are Unimpressive

Russell “Gus The Good Guy’ Wenzel won the first competition of 2020, a par round, with a score of 1 up, one worse than his handicap. There was a three way tie for second between Bill “Noddy” McMahon, Andy Phillips & Michael “Tickers” Tickner all square, with Tickers getting the ball on a count back. Pat Hallion ironically won both the birdie ball and the Mars Bar with -5. The world handicapping system is due to be implemented on January 30 at which time these scores would be downgraded by 2 strokes.

Results:

  • +1 – Russell Wenzel
  • 0 – Bill McMahon, Andy Phillips, Michael Tickner
  • -1 – Andrew Spackman, Peter Weiss (one to watch)
  • -3 – Richard Matz, Philip Thomson
  • -5 – Pat Hallion
