Gus The Good Guy Wins Bogisch Cup After 34 Years of Trying

Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel defeated Michael “Tickers’ Tickner in the final of the Bogisch Cup. The match was evenly poised after 9 holes with the score all square. At this point Tickers seems to have gone AWOL and 5 holes later found himself 5 down with 4 to play. Congratulations to Gus on finally breaking through to win this prestigious event.

Sad Scores on Tuesday

With the exception of Bob Taylor, the competitors in the men’s stableford event would have had a more productive day if they had stayed home and weeded the garden.

Tickers Brilliant in the Wind

Michael “Tickers” Tickner showed once again that he is the club’s outstanding player in the wind. Tickers played as if it were a calm day in Saturday’s stroke round, returning a net 70. One wonders if the match committee could not show some flexibility when a stroke round is scheduled and the conditions turn out to be as appalling as they were yesterday, for while Tickers was not troubled you can see from the scores below that everyone else was. Runner up was Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel with a net 73 while the Mars Bar went to Mark “Mouldy” Millward with a net 93!

Results:

  • 70 – Michael “Tickers” Tickner
  • 73 – Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel
  • 79 – Andy Phillips, David “Jack” Webster
  • 82 – Pat Hallion

Club Champions Decided

Sharyn Roberts continued her run as Ladies Club Champion for the 13th year in a row, defeating a valiant Andrea Row 9 & 8. Given a difference of 6 strokes in handicaps Andrea put up a good show.

Matt Opperman won the men’s championship for the 3rd year in a row and 4th overall beating David “Jack” Webster 8 & 7. The match was close for the first 18 holes with Matt just 2 up at lunch. We are still trying to find out what Matt had for lunch because he was 1 under par for the next 9 holes opening up a sizeable lead.

In the men’s A Grade Plate, the popular Mark “Mouldy” Millward proved he had not peaked a day too soon enjoying a comfortable win over club captain Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel 4 & 3. Mark was 5 up at lunch and then the pair played even golf in the afternoon.

The men’s Division II final was a hard fought affair with Trevor Maxted finally winning 3 & 2 over Neil Webster. It is reported that both players were very pleased when the game was finally over.

With one day to the club championship finals Mark “Mouldy” Millward blitzed Saturday’s stableford field with a sizzling 40 points, 3 points clear of visitor David Rook. The Mars Bar went to Kobi Wenzel with 20 points.

We only hope Mouldy can hold his form on Sunday in the final of the A Grade Plate.
