Bob Perry & Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen played their first round Bogisch Match Play match today because Bob is unavailable on Saturday. As they both rode in Eddie’s cart they made quick progress around the course and after 5 holes caught up with a group of ladies playing ahead of them. Rather than approach the ladies & politely ask to play through they elected to cut across to the tenth hole & return later to complete the missed holes. Unfortunately this is in breach of rule 2-1 which states that a match “consists of one side playing against another over a stipulated round”. A stipulated round is defined as “playing the holes of the course in their correct sequence” thus our two protagonists have found themselves in breach of rule of rule 1-3 Agreement to Waive Rules, the penalty for breach of this rule in match play- disqualification of both sides.

When advised of the ruling the Dutchman was philosophical (he lost anyway) while it will take more than this to disturb Bob Perry’s equilibrium.

The committee urges all participants to acquaint themselves with rules as they apply to match play before their matches begin.
