The last time Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke was runner up in the ANZAC Cup he snatched defeat from the jaws of victory by choking on the last hole and giving up the lead. Yesterday he played steady golf scoring 19 points on each 9 for a total of 38. Colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson also scored 38 with 19 on each 9. Thomo scored 1 more point than The Chook Man over the last 6 holes & was awarded the trophy. Considering the conditions these were excellent scores. This is Thomo’s 5th ANZAC Cup victory, which he was very quick to point out.
Eddie “The Flying Dutchman’ Van Keulen was next with 36 followed by Peter Weiss, making a rare appearance, on 35. Dick Cleland & Luke Spackman scored 34, Andrew Spackman & Russell “Gus The Good Guy” 33. Andrew Lenartowicz (Peterborough Golf Club) & David “Jack” Webster 31.
The remaining players struggled in the windy conditions with Bob Perry on 28, Bob Taylor on 26, and Kobi Wenzel on 23.
Eight ladies played, with Margie Stockman a clear winner on 34 points. Runner up was Peggy Gebhardt on 28, followed by Sharyn Roberts 26, Reva Cullen & Di Day 25, Andrea Rowe 23, Judy Reilly 20 & Marj Wride with the Mars Bar 16.
