Peter Weiss and Pat Hallion turned up the heat on the back 9 in Saturday’s par event. At the half way mark Pat was 1 up and Peter was square. Pat turned in a dazzling performance on the homeward nine scoring 3 up to finish 4 up overall. Peter, however, went one better scoring 4 up on the back 9 to draw level and take the day on a count back.
Kobi Wenzel had an uncharacteristic bad day to take the Mars Bar.
Boh Wall was too strong for his opponents on Tuesday carding 35 stableford points to beat runner up, Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel by 2 strokes. Richard “Pickles” Matz showed a concerning fall off in form sharing the Mars Bar with Neil Webster. Pickles’ fans will be hoping that this loss of form is temporary.
David “Jack” Webster had an outstanding round on Saturday scoring 43 stableford points in the first round of summer golf. Richard “Pickles” Matz was runner up with 41. Pickles reached the turn with 25 and had visions of a 50 point round. It wasn’t to be as Pickles tightened up (aka choked) on the back 9 scoring just 16 points, a difference of a stroke a hole. Scores were generally up on recent efforts with even the Mars Bar recipient, Bevan Ladhams, scoring 28 points.
Chris “Critta” Waters gave a master class in controlling the wind on Tuesday scoring 38 stableford points. The next best was a mediocre 32 points by Mark “Mouldy” Millward & Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel with one of them runner up on a count back. Bob Taylor got his 2nd Mars Bar in a row.
Matt Opperman won the Bogisch Cup for handicap matchplay in another close final defeating Boh Wall on the 17th hole 2 & 1. The match was tight all the way but Matt applied the pressure with a 1 over par effort on the back 9. This completes the match play finals for the winter season with all finals at least reaching the penultimate hole.
The genial Andy Phillips was the only player to play to his handicap on Saturday finishing square in the par round. he unlucky Pat Hallion was runner up with -1. Bob Taylor took the Mars Bar with -11.
After a period of high Mars Bar consumption Trevor Maxted has recently strung together a number of wins including the C Grade Championship. Trevor added to these wins braving Saturday’s rain to take out the stableford competition with 37 points, a great effort in the conditions. Newly crowned Club Champion, David “Jack” Webster was runner up with 36 points. Mark “Mouldy” Millward collected the Mars Bar.
11 ladies played the 20 hole Par 3 course on Tuesday prior to the Winter season Trophy presentations & lunch. Winner of the nett in the Par 3 was Di Day & Runner up was Lyn Mosey.

Andrea Rowe & Sharyn Roberts have been selected in the Mid North District Pennant team to represent the Mid North at the Golf SA – South Australian Country District Pennant, to be held at Barmera GC on October 10th & 11th. The team consists of 6 men & 4 women from the Mid North. All the best to team ‘Mid North’.
