Laurel Wreath Rounds

Ladies Golf – Tuesday July 21st

On Tuesday it was decided all the girls that needed to play their Laurel Wreath round could play that day due to no competition listed in our calendar (this week was scheduled for country week but was cancelled due to that pesky virus).

The results for the round were Sharyn Roberts v Margie Stockman 5/4 Sharyn’s way, Andrea Rowe v Judy Reilly 4/3 Andrea getting up, and Di Day v Glenys Pierce played before Tuesday with Glenys winning 3/1.

Three girls not playing Laurel Wreath played a stableford round, winner was Peg Gebhardt 29 points, and Di Day won nearest to the pin on hole 8.

Next Tuesday the finals for the Women’s championships is to be decided.

A Grade – Sharyn Robert v Andrea Rowe over 36 holes and Lyn Mosey v Judy Reilly will play off for the B Grade handicap plate over 27 holes. The B Grade Plate is a new competition introduced this year. Best of luck to all girls.

The remaining girls not in finals will play a stableford round.

Mulligans: Dick Cleland in a Count Back

Five played competed in today’s mulligan competition with two strokes separating first and last. A count back was required to decide both the winner and the Mars Bar recipient. Dick Cleland prevailed over Andy Phillips with both scoring 18 points. Andy three putted the final hole which proved costly. Bob Taylor received the Mars Bar.

Full results:

  • 18 – Dick Cleland, Andy Phillips
  • 17 – Richard “Pickles” Matz
  • 16 – Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel, Bob Taylor

Pat Hallion Breaks Through

The immensely popular Pat Hallion has finally broken through for a win although this can probably be attributed to the ineptitude of his fellow competitors. Pat scored a modest 32 points in absolutely perfect weather conditions which was, however, just enough to defeat runner up Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel on dismal 31. The other eight competitors failed to make 30 points. Trevor Maxted took the Mars Bar.

Three Way Tie in Saturday’s Golf

Despite the gusty conditions, 3 players scored 34 stableford points on Saturday. The antiquated count back system placed Mark “Mouldy” Millward in first place making it 2 Saturdays in a row for the popular school teacher. Second place went to Richard “Pickles” Matz, denying Pickles of a hat trick following wins on Tuesday and Thursday. Third was Dick Cleland who showed a rare glimpse of form as he has been closer to the Mars Bar than the winners circle over the past several months. Peter Weiss took the Mars Bar.
