David “Robbie” Robinson won Saturday’s par competition in  3 way count back. Robbie finished 1 up as did C grade favourite Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen & Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel who is also shaping as a chance in the A grade  .  Next were Chris “Critta” Waters & Dick Cleland with -2. Andy Phillips & David “Jack” Webster scored -3 but reigning Club Champion Michael “Tickers” Tickner appears to have some work to do before the play offs finishing with -8. The Mars Bar went to our youngest member Kobi Wenzel with -10. I urge older members to avoid being complacent as Kobi is not destined to remain a cellar dweller.

Today’s 9 hole mulligan event started in fine but chilly conditions. The Sun soon warmed things up for a pleasant morning. Dick Cleland scored 20 points to beat the resurgent David “Robbie” Robinson by the narrowest of margins. Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke was third with 18, one better than his best mate the mercurial Bob Taylor. Peter Mengerson scored 15 followed by Andy Phillips on 13. Andrew Hall had a rough morning and was awarded the Mars Bar. As he had left prior to the presentations Andy Phillips enjoyed the chocolate.

Robbie Strikes Form as Championship Playoffs Loom

David “Robbie” Robinson won Tuesday’s stableford comfortably with 37 points. It seems that Robbie is coming in to form at just the right time for the club championships with the final qualifying rounds this month. The rest of the field did not fare well with next best Andy Phillips on just 34 points. David “Jack” Webster, Dick Cleland, Gordon “The Chook Man” kakoschke & Chris “Critta” Waters all had 33. Dick, Gordon & Critta had excellent front nines but collapsed dramatically on the homeward nine with 13, 13 & 12 points respectively. There was also a tie for the Mars Bar with the mercurial Bob Taylor & Eddie “The Flying Dutchman’ Van Keulen both scoring 27. The Dutchman received the confectionery on a countback.

The Flying Dutchman may have appeared to have had a bad day on the face of it but this is not the case. He manages to visit some lovely parts of the course where other members have never been. I recommend that players take the trouble to book a game with Eddie & take ride in his cart. I can guarantee that you will be amply rewarded.

Michael “Tickers” Tickner

Current Club Champion Michael “Tickers” Tickner has struck form as the Club Championship playoffs draw closer. Tickers scored 38 stableford points on Saturday after beginning slowly but striking top form mid way through the outward 9.  Runner up was Andy Phillips fully 5 points behind on 33. Neil Webster & Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel scored 32 & Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen scored 31. Trevor Austin took the Mars Bar for the 2nd time in 3 weeks with 28 points.

The Lightforce Rally of the Heartland is taking place this weekend in the Burra/Hallett area. The golf club provided lunch for competitors, officials & guests in Bill Gebhardt’s hay shed at Mt Bryan. This has been a worthwhile fundraiser for the club. The ladies provided soup & salads while 4 of the men gave up their Saturday golf to cook the barbecue.  Peg Gebhardt, Di Day, Marj Wride & Helen Cleland served meals while those that gave up their golf were the mercurial Bob Taylor, Gordon “The Chook Man Kakoschke (considered the best pair of barbecue chefs in the Mid North), Dick Secomb & Dick Cleland.

The Mercurial Bob Taylor & his best buddy Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke both scored 19 points in yesterday’s mulligans. The Chook Man had a brilliant start scoring 10 points in the first 3 holes. This unfairly went against him in the countback system which awarded the win to Bob for outscoring Gordon over the final 6 holes. David “Jack” Webster was third with 18 followed by Dick Cleland 17 & Andy Phillips 15. There was a battle to avoid the Mars Bar with Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” scoring 12 to Andrew Hall’s 11.

Tuesday results: Critta Returns to the Winner’s Circle

Chris "Critta" Waters
Chris “Critta” Waters

Chris “Critta” Waters won Tuesday’s stableford with 38 points. Critta has spent some months in the wilderness (if you have played with Critta you will know that this is literally the case) and it is good to see him in winning form once more. Dave “Robbie” Robinson was runner up with 36. Incredibly there was a gap of 6 points to the third placegetters, Bob Taylor & Neil Webster with 30. Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel scored 28 and Andy Phillips got the Mars Bar with 26.

The handicapper has taken a stroke off Critta & given one to Robbie.
