Dick Cleland scored 38 stableford points to win today’s competition despite being heavily involved in last night’s meeting of the Burra Malt Club. Dick scored 21 points on the front 9 and after a slow start on the back 9 fought back to hold off David “Jack” Webster who came home strongly to finish with 36. The mercurial Bob Taylor scored 32, Neil Webster scored 28 & Chris “Critta” Waters, who was having a hit out prior to the second round of the Club Championships on Saturday, took the Mars Bar with just 19 points.

The handicapper acted quickly reducing Dick”s handicap to 12 which makes him a real A grader.

Golf Club Auction a Great Success!

A good crowd bid strongly for a strong offer of quality items. Which proved to be a great result for bidders, vendors & the Club.

The Golf Club is once again indebted to auctioneers Connor Lamond & Tim Taplin for the generous contribution of their skill & time. Once again a strong contingent of club members ensured the smooth running of the event. We saw the return of Gordon “The Chook Man’ Kakoschke to assist his colleague Bob Taylor in cooking the barbecue. Apparently there were no bowls tournaments with big enough prize money today.

Low Turnout for Round 1 of Club Championships

Only 6 players turned out for the first qualifying round of the Club Championships. While colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson is recovering from an injury it would appear that many other members either failed to check their program or were attending the Burra Antique  Fair. Fortunately for those that missed Saturday’s round qualification for the semi finals is determined by the best 2 of 4 qualifying rounds.

The standings after round 1 are:
