This activity has been undertaken by the Burra Golf Club for a number of years and is an important fundraiser.

Access to the site is available all day so if you can spare some time please come along with your rake, utility, trailer, tractor or front end loader and rake the straw into piles for removal.

Tournament Favorite Eliminated in Semi Final

Tommo in Happier Times

Colourful local identity, Philip “Tommo” Thomson was the firm favourite to win this years Jennison Handicap Matchplay Cup until he had to play the club’s oldest active member today.

Tommo broke out the blocks in fine style winning the first hole. Unfortunately it was the only hole that Tommo won. Despite a minimal difference in handicap Tommo was unable to stem the tide going down 6 & 5 to Dick Cleland. This result has thrown the betting markets into disarray. Dick will play the winner of the other semi final between Mark “Mouldy” Millward & Peter Weiss which will be played next week.

This is Dick’s easiest win in the competition so far with both of his previous matches going to the 19th.

The Flying Dutchman Returns

Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen smashed the field in today’s par bisque. In a game that requires both good golf and the intelligence to manage the use of handicap strokes Eddie excelled in both. Runner up was Mark “Mouldy” Millward on plus 4. Both Eddie & Mouldy scored -1 in normal par scoring, demonstrating Eddie’s uncanny ability to maximize his handicap strokes under this format. Chris “Critta” Waters collected the Mars Bar with -4.

Normal Par Scores:

  • -1 Edward Van Keulen, Mark Millward
  • -2 Russell Wenzel
  • -3 Robert Perry
  • -4 Kobi Wenzel
  • -5 Richard Secomb
  • – 6 Andrew Phillips
  • -7 Richard Matz, Trevor Maxted
  • -8 Chris Waters

Wild Conditions for Wednesday's Golf

Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel returns the only good score of the day.

Wild windy conditions confronted a small field of 5 players who ventured out on Tuesday. The winner was Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel with 35 stableford points, a good score in the testing conditions. No other pplayer scored 30 or more points.

Scores:

  • 35 Russell Wenzel
  • 29 Andrew Phillips
  • 28 Neil Webster
  • 26 David Webster
  • 23 Richard Cleland (Mars Bar)

Jennison Cup Semi Finalists Decided

The quarter finals of the Jennison Cup, handicap match play, were decided on Saturday providing some closely fought matches. Mark “Mouldy” Millward defeated the long hitting Christopher “Critta” Waters 1 up. Critta scored 2 eagles in the first 3 hols but Mouldy showed exceptional patience and got on with his own game while Critta crashed to earth. Peter Weiss beat Big Trevor Maxted 3 & 1 while Dick Cleland needed 19 holes to defeat a much impoved Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen. The other semi final was played earlier with Philip “Tommo” Thomson successful over Andy Phillips.

Players not involved in matches played a Par round. Despite near perfect conditions the scores were so poor it is your correspondent’s view that the only prize that should have been handed out was the Mars Bar. Colourful local identity, Philip “Tommo” Thomson beat David “Robbie” Robinson on a count back both returning dismal scores of -3. Michael “Tickers” Tickner, on the other hand, really earned the Mars Bar with a score of -10.

Full results:

  • -3 Philip Thomson, David Robinson
  • -4 Bob Perry
  • -5 Kobi Wenzel
  • -6 Richard Matz, Richard Secomb
  • -7 Pat Hallion
  • -8 Russell Wenzel
  • -10 Michael Tickner (Mars Bar)
