Kobi Wenzel Wins Tuesday Golf

Taking advantage of school holidays to get in some extra golf, Kobi Wenzel posted 41 stableford points to win Tuesday’s competition. Scores were above average with 7 of the 11 players scoring 36 or better. The other 4 scores were not so good.

Results:

Dick Cleland Proves Too Strong

Twelve players competed in ideal conditions today with some good scores returned. Dick Cleland returned the best score with an evenly played 41 stableford points. Runner up was Michael “Tickers” Tickner with 39. Tickers has recently turned to form after a period in the wilderness and we can expect some good results from him in the coming weeks. Pat Hallion continued his consistent form finishing 3rd with 37 points.

The most disappointing result today was poor showing by colourful local sporting identity, Philip “Tommo” Thomson, who scored just 25 points, narrowly avoiding the Mars Bar.

Results:

  • 41 – Richard Cleland
  • 39 – Michael Tickner
  • 37 – Pat Hallion

Ladies Stableford

Ideal conditions for first game of the new year

Tuesday, January 6th.

Five ladies hit off this morning in ideal conditions. Marj Wride and Judy Reilly played 9 holes with Marj coming out with the win on 17 points.

Eighteen hole winner was Andrea Rowe 31 points, Margie Stockman 29 points (runner up), and past member Jeanette Barlow joined the ladies today and had a score of 21 points, not to shabby a score considering Jeanette hasn’t played for 2 years.

Nearest the pin was Margie Stockman on hole 8. Andrea Rowe had a Chip out/birdie on hole 11 giving her the Birdie ball.

Players Struggle in Perfect Conditions

Six players competed in today’s stableford but the scores were less than impressive. The winner was Andy Phillips with 34 points. Runner up was Dick Cleland with 32 on a count back from Chris “Critta” Waters.

The big disappointment was colourful local identity Phillip “Tommo” Thomson, who turned in the lead with 17 points, but he faded on the back 9 adding just 11 more points.

Results:

  • 34 – Andrew Phillips
  • 32 – Richard Cleland, Chris Waters
  • 28 – Philip Thomson, Russell Wenzel
  • 24 – Pat Hallion

Gus The Good Guy Wins 1st Event of 2020, But Scores Are Unimpressive

Russell “Gus The Good Guy’ Wenzel won the first competition of 2020, a par round, with a score of 1 up, one worse than his handicap. There was a three way tie for second between Bill “Noddy” McMahon, Andy Phillips & Michael “Tickers” Tickner all square, with Tickers getting the ball on a count back. Pat Hallion ironically won both the birdie ball and the Mars Bar with -5. The world handicapping system is due to be implemented on January 30 at which time these scores would be downgraded by 2 strokes.

Results:

  • +1 – Russell Wenzel
  • 0 – Bill McMahon, Andy Phillips, Michael Tickner
  • -1 – Andrew Spackman, Peter Weiss (one to watch)
  • -3 – Richard Matz, Philip Thomson
