A count back was required to determine the winner in today’s mulligans. Andy Phillips won over David “Jack” Webster with both scoring 21 points. Dick Cleland was only 1 point back on 20, while the remaining scores were somewhat ordinary.
Today Bob Taylor won the Melbourne Cup sweep, nearest the pin on the 11th, and the Mars Bar.

32 – Philip “Thomo” Thomson
31 – Neil Webster
29 – David “Jack” Webster

Club members were delighted once again to see the smiling face of Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen after an absence due to age related health issues.
The competition played was a par round arguably the greatest test in golf, match play against the course. Some still argue that stroke play is the real test but they are ignoring the facts (perhaps their place is in politics) as a small piece of bad luck can destroy a stroke round.
Four players managed to beat the course with Dick Cleland doing so in emphatic manner.
The final results were:
6 up – Dick Cleland
4 up – Neil Webster, Mark “Mouldy” Millward
2 up – Dick Secomb
Square – Matt McCauley, Andy Phillips
2 down – colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson, Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel
3 down – Michael “Tickers” Tickner
5 down – Pat Hallion, Chris “Critta” Waters, David “Jack” Webster, Kobi Wenzel
8 down – Sam Cleland
9 down – Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen (Mars Bar)
Colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson proved too strong for Tuesday’s field scoring 39 stableford points & collecting 2 “nearest the pins” on the way. Runner up was Andy Phillips with 37 points.
Full results were:
39 – Philip “Thomo” Thomson
37 – Andy Phillips
35 – The mercurial Bob Taylor
33 – Michael “Tickers” Tickner, Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel
Richard “Dick” Secomb & Richard “Dick” Cleland scored 40 stableford points each to beat Saturday’s field comfortably by 2 strokes. Dick Secomb got off to a flyer scoring 23 points on the outward 9 while Dick Cleland scored a solid 19 points. At this point Sam Cleland appeared to be in the best position to challenge with a score of 22. Sadly lack fitness showed for both these players and they faded on the homeward 9. Dick Cleland on the other hand showed fitness to be no problem improving to 21 points on the back 9 to claim the win on a count back. Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel showed fitness is not an issue if you use a cart finishing third with 38.
The full results were:
– 40 Dick Cleland, Dick Secomb
– 38 Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel
– 37 Michael “Tickers” Tickner
– 34 Sam Cleland, Bill McMahon, Andy Spackman, Colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson
In one of the best rounds for some time David “Jack” Webster scored 49 stableford points on Tuesday. Jack had a short put on the last hole for 50 points but left the put hanging on the rim of the cup. Nonetheless 49 points is quite a good effort. Runner up was Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel with 42 points, a score that would win on most days.
Mulligan specialist Dick Secomb was too good once again despite the excellent scores by other players. Only 5 players fronted in beautiful conditions for golf and a mark of the good scores was the Mars Bar going to David “Jack” Webster with 19 points.
Scores were:
22 – Dick Secomb
20 – Michael “Tickkers” Tickner (runner up on count back), Sam Cleland, Dick Cleland
Nine juniors took part in a fun day last Friday as part of Golf Week.
A competition was held as part of the activities with Amber Evers from Tanunda winning the girls event with 40 points & Burra’s Kobi Wenzel winning the boys event with 35 points
Kobi Wenzel won yesterday’s stableford with 39 points despite fading on the back 9. Runner up was Bob Taylor with 37 on a 4 way count back from Mark “Mouldy” Millward, colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson & Dick Cleland. Dick seemed to choke having accumulated 30 points after 12 but could only manage 7 points on the last 6.
There was then a big gap to Michael “Tickers” Tickner on 33, David “Jack” Webster 30, & Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel 29. The Mars Bar went to Pat Hallion with 24 points.
