The Club Captain & the Handicapper tied in the Australia Day stableford with 39 points each. The Captain awarded first place to the Handicapper on a count back. The Handicapper, however, did not show such largess deducting a stroke from the Captain’s handicap whilst adding a stroke to his own.
Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel, Club Captain
The Australia Day Mars Bar was awarded to The Flying Dutchman by a very comfortable margin.
Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen received the Australia Day Mars Bar.

Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel also had a good round finishing 2nd once again this time with 40 points. The handicapper was swift to act reducing Tickers’ handicap to 10. Dick Secomb was brutal in his demolition of his opponents on Saturday. After setting up a winning break on the field with 26 stableford points on the front 9, Dick cruised home scoring an easy 21 points on the back for 47 points. Closest to Dick was Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel who only managed 39. Unfortunately for Dick the handicapper was just as brutal deducting 2 strokes from his handicap. This should not prove a problem, however, as Dick’c handicap has now fallen from 31 on November 25th to 25 clearly stamping Dick as the form player of the moment.

23 – Michael “Tickers” Tickner (even more disappointing)
Despite the forecast being for warm rather than extremely hot weather, Michael “Tickers” Tickner & David “Jack” Webster sought to seek advantage in the cool of the morning. In a field of 13 Jack finished 7th & Tickers equal 8th. Lucky they didn’t play in the heat of the day.
The winner was the popular Andy Phillips who finished with 42stableford points, an excellent effort. Runner up was Mark “Mouldy” Millward also with an excellent score of 40.
Pat Hallion has been dominant recently, but has his run come to an end?

Andrew Hall proved far to strong for his opponents scoring 23 points in today’s 9 hole mulligan event. The only player to offer any resistance was mulligan specialist Dick Secomb who finished with 21. It was a close run for the Mars Bar with Dick Cleland taking the confectionery with 13 just behind David “Jack” Webster on 14.
Michael “Tickers” Tickner took out today’s stableford with 37 points. Runner up was Dick Cleland was second with 35, edging out Andy Phillips on a count back. In form player Pat Hallion failed to fire finishing with just 32 but he shouldn’t be written off just yet. Derek Fletcher took the Mars Bar with 22 points.
A good field of 12 played but scores were disappointing, with players possibly having difficulty with the lack of wind.

Pat Hallion continues to take all before him winning Saturday’s par competition with a score of +2. Pat’s Handicap has now dropped from 18 to 14 since December 29, but this seems to have no effect. The closest to Pat were a group of 5 players on -1, with Mark “Mouldy” Millward gaining 2nd on a count back. At the other end of the field a count back was required to determine the Mars Bar with Dick Cleland & Andy Spackman both on -3. Andy received the chocolate.

If today’s results are any indication, we are in for some cracking golf in 2019. Dick Cleland emerged from weeks in Mars Bar territory while Pat Hallion continued his surge towards form of days gone by. Both scored 43 stableford points with Dick prevailing on a count back. Dick could only manage 24 points on Saturday so his new year resolution to get some practice seems to be paying off already, although he hasn’t started yet. The mercurial Bob Taylor & Trevor Maxted both scored 42. The handicapper was ruthless, deducting 1 stroke from the handicaps of all four..
