Richard “Pickles” Matz continues his inexorable march to win every competition he enters. Today he won the Mulligan event following up his wins on Saturday & Tuesday. Pickles scored 23 stableford points to cruise to a win. Runner up, Bob Taylor, scored a normally competitive 19 points. Other scores were Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel 15, Dick Cleland 14 & Andy Phillips brought up the rear with 11 (Mars Bar).

Burra Golf Club”s most improved player, Richard “Pickles” Matz, continues to take all before him and the handicapper seems helpless to do anything about it. On Saturday in extremely windy conditions Pickles won comfortably with 34 points, with runner up Boh Wall scoring 32. The Mars Bar went to David “Jack” Webster with 23.

On Tuesday Pickles was at it again scoring 36 points, one better the unlucky Pat Hallion on 35. Trevor Maxted took the Mars Bar with 21.

Eight players braved strong winds on Tuesday and the effects were mirrored in most scores. Chris “Critta” Waters, however, seemed untroubled by the unfriendly weather posting a score of 35 points to edge out the inform Richard “Pickles” Matz by one stroke. The other players struggled in the wind with the worst example being Dick Cleland who took the Mars Bar with 23 points.

The first round of matches has been completed and the results are below. The next round is due to be played on the 29th of August. The match to watch will be the clash between Richard “Pickles” Matz & Chris “Critta” Waters as both players are striking form at the right time.

Seven players not involved in Bogisch Cup responsibilities played a stableford event on Saturday. Richard “Pickles” Matz continued his winning form edging out the unlucky Pat Hallion in a count back, both returning cards of 35 points. All seven played scored better than 30 points with Mark “Mouldy” Millward taking the Mars Bar with 31 points.

Richard “Pickles” Matz issued a stern warning to fellow B Grade finalists with a cracking 37 stableford points on Tuesday. Pickles finished 5 points clear of runner up Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel on 32. Andy Phillips took the Mars Bar with a disappointing 26 points.

The final qualifying round for the club championships was played last Saturday with Kobi Wenzel showing top form at the right time with a gross 86 nett 70 to win the day by 2 strokes. Kobi’s fine round has seen him qualify first in B grade and also first for the Bogisch Cup handicap matchplay.

Colouful local identity Philip “Tommo” Thomson failed to submit a score.
