Mark “Mouldy” Millward won Saturday’s stableford comfortably with a score of 35. Runner up was Andy Phillips while Dave “Robbie” Robinson took the Mars Bar.
19 players fronted for the first round of the men’s club championships on Saturday in perfect weather. Reigning champion Matt Opperman lead the way with 86 off the stick followed by a group of 3, Andy Phillips, Dave “Robbie” Robinson and Chris “Critta” Waters, on 88. Colourful local identity Philip “Tommo” Thomson was the only other player to break 90 and could be in the mix for another club championship win.
The World Handicap System will go live on Thursday January 30. The main difference Burra players will notice will be the change to daily handicaps, although there may be small adjustments to GA handicaps.

Colourful local identity, Philip “Tommo” Thomson put in a good round of 39 stableford points in the men’s midweek stableford. It was not good enough, however, as Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel playing in the last group scored 40 points to edge Tommo out. Mark “Mouldy” Millwood showed improved form carding 37 points while Dick Cleland scored 35.
After showing great promise over several weeks Pat Hallion has finally broken through for a stunning victory. Pat has spreadeagled a good field of 18 players scoring 41 stableford points to finish 4 points clear of runner up David “Jack” Webster. Dick Cleland, Chris “Critta” Waters, & colourful local identity Philip “Tommo” Thomson were one back on 36. At the other end of the field Trevor Maxted took the Mars Bar with 24 points.

Twelve players competed in ideal conditions today with some good scores returned. Dick Cleland returned the best score with an evenly played 41 stableford points. Runner up was Michael “Tickers” Tickner with 39. Tickers has recently turned to form after a period in the wilderness and we can expect some good results from him in the coming weeks. Pat Hallion continued his consistent form finishing 3rd with 37 points.
The most disappointing result today was poor showing by colourful local sporting identity, Philip “Tommo” Thomson, who scored just 25 points, narrowly avoiding the Mars Bar.
All players in Saturday’s stableford failed to play to their handicaps. The best result was Russell “Gus The Good” Guy Wenzel who returned a score of one over his handicap with a score of 37 points. A count back was required to sort out the runner up with Dick Secomb prevailing over Pat Hallion, both returning 36 points. The Mars Bar went to Richard “Pickles” Matz with 23 points while Michael “Tickers” Tickner still stuggles to find form.
