Jack Webster showed that recent handicap reductions hold no fear as he swept aside the competition on Saturday. Jack scored 40 stableford points & the handicapper has taken yet another stroke off Jack. There was a 3 way tie for 2nd between colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson, Michael “Tickers” Tickner & Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel all with 37 points. Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke showed a liking to the dry Summer conditions scoring a dazzling 23 points last Thursday in the 9 hole mulligan competition. In perfect weather on Tuesday Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel scorched the earth on the front 9 going out in even par & 24 points. Alas things went awry in the closing stage with Gus scoring just 2 points on the last 2 holes for a total of 39. Meanwhile the mercurial Bob Taylor playing more steadily also put together 39 points to win comfortably on a count back.

Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke & Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen” both scored scored 35. The Chook Man is returning from the summer break where he concentrated on bowls & clearly is short of a run also fading over the closing holes.  Andy Phillips scored 31 while colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson just manage to scape 30 points together. Dick Cleland’s woes continued collecting his 2nd Mars Bar in succession with 29. Dick’s game seemed to disintegrate after playing the Chook Man’s ball in error. The Chook Man was good enough to point this out AFTER the event.

Country member Graham Webster gave the locals a wake up call on Tuesday charging home on the back 9 with 24 points for a total of 43 points. Graham could well have scored several more points if not for some misfortune on the front 9. Runner up was Dick Cleland with 39, a personal best for a day following a meeting of the Burra Malt Whisky Club. The handicapper was swift to deduct a stroke from both players’ handicaps. Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel, the most consistent player in the club scored a handicap equaling 38 followed closely by Neil Webster on 37. The remaining players struggled in the benign conditions with colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson scoring 31, while Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen & Andy Phillips failed to make 30. Eddie scored 27 while Andy received the Mars Bar with 26.

A par 3 competition was played to close the mid week summer season with 5 players participating. The 20 hole course was laid out by Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel & it seemed to suit him well. Jack finished strongly but a hiccup on the 16th cost him the win.Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” finished with 58 which included a birdie that he eagerly pointed ot to his playing partners.Dick Cleland & Andy Phillips brought up the rear with Dick on 63 & Andy taking the Mars Bar with 64.

Our photo shows the temporary par 3 across the dam. One can only wonder why this hole was not included in the original course layout.

On Saturday Dick won the 18 hole stableford event knocking out the fancied colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson in a count back. Both players scored 37 points. They finished just ahead of a phalanx of players on 36, being Andy Phillips, Michael “Tickers” Tickner & Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen. Dick Cleland & Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel both scored 35. Alas the remaining 2 players were not anywhere in contention. Despite some some prodigious  striking of the ball Chris “Critta” Waters could only manage 26 points while young Kobi Wenzel did not have a good day finishing with 23.
