In the best weather since Autumn, only one player’s golf matched the weather. Club President Dick Cleland was working on a new secret and returned a card of 41 stableford points. This was 6 points clear of runner up Andy Phillips on 35 not matching his Saturday score achieved in trying conditions. Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke was third on 34. The Chook Man got away to a good start but choked badly on the back 9. There was then a big gap to Bob Taylor 31, colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson 30, with a tie for the Mars Bar between Neil Webster & Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel both with 29. Gus The Good Guy took the chocolate on a count back

You Can Score in the Wind if You Are Good Enough
The course was swept with 45 kph winds on Saturday with the odd shower of rain for good measure, and most of the scores were ordinary at best.
Matthew “Oppy” Opperman & Andy Phillips showed that you could still score in these conditions both finishing with 37 stableford points. Oppy took out first place on a countback, Andy having trouble finishing off once more, being in a winning position on the 18th tee he could only manage 1 point to close. Scores fell away after this with colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson best of the rest on 35, then another 2 stroke gap to Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke 33, Phil Arthur 32 another gap to Chris “Critta” Waters & Russell “Gus “The Good Guy” Wenzel on 30. The rest failed to reach 30 with Club President Dick Cleland & David “Jack” Webster on 29, Mark “Mouldy” Millward 27, Michael “Tickers” Tickner on 26 & “Mad” Max Wiech took the Mars Bar with 25
Robbie Returns
After an absence of 4 months because of injury David “Robbie” Robinson decided to test himself out over 9 holes in today’s 9 hole mulligan competition. The result was that he scored 21 stableford points sweeping all before him, so we expect to be hearing a lot from him in the coming weeks. He can also forget about the extra strokes that he pleaded for before the round. Fortunately the handicapper has a heart of stone and took no notice. Runner up was Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke who finally came out on the right side of a countback, tying with Andy Phillips on 20. Andy was playing his 2nd game back from a break and has returned in good form but today he choked on the last hole scoring 0 when in a winning position. Trevor Austin was next with 17 followed by President Dick Cleland, Don Lloyd & Peter Mengerson all with 16. The President was happy with the secret he is now working on for his long game but urgently needs to find the secret of the short game. Colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson scored 14 & Andrew Hall scored 12. Sharon Austin graced us with her female charm (you probably aren’t allowed to say that any more) and collected the Mars Bar.
Andy Phillips Returns to No Competition
Andy Phillips returned from 3 months absence to find that the standard of golf had not improved in his absence. Andy had a slow start scoring only 13 points on the front 9. He quickly got back into his stride scoring a blistering 23 points on the back 9. Andy’s score of 36 left him 2 clear of runner up Gus “The Good Guy” Wenzel on 34. Colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” was next with 33 followed closely by David “jack” Webster on 33. Things got really bad after this; Bob Taylor could only manage 27 and the Mars Bar recipient, Chris “Critta” Waters finished with a very disappointing 22.
Mouldy Surprised to Win Russell Nichols Trophy
Saturday provided ideal conditions for golf but none of the 9 competitors took advantage. When Mark “Mouldy” Millward completed his round his foremost thought was “I hope that’s enough to avoid the Mars Bar.” But lo and behold, his score of 33 points was enough to win the coveted trophy (regular followers of this blog will be aware that men require 38 points to play to their handicap at Burra). Runner up was Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel who once again edged out the hapless Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke both on 32 points. They were followed by a group of 3, Dick Secomb, Philip “Thomo” Thomson, & Michael “Tickers” Tickner on 31 & Bob Taylor on 30. Things got really bad after this with Phil Arthur on 25 while the Mars Bar went to Bob Perry with only 19.
