Three of the four quarter finals were played on Saturday for the Jennison Handicap Match Play Cup. As luck would have it the two form players of the past month, David “Robbie” Robinson and Philip “Tommo” Thomson drawn together. Robbie put any disputes about who was in better form by beating Tommo conclusively 4 & 3. In other matches Pat Hallion defeated Peter Weiss 5 & 4 while the match between Chris “Critta” Waters and Mark “Mouldy” Millward proved to be the match of the day with Critta taking 20 holes to defeat the ever valiant Mouldy. The remaining quarter final between David “Jack” Webster and Andy Phillips is still to be played.

There have been some good results since my last post and congratulations to all winners. Most notable were David “Robbie” Robinson, Philip “Tommo” Thomson & Pat Hallion with 2 wins each, although one of Pat”s wins was a day when no one else turned up.
Determined to identify the lost ball. Jodi Lehmann somehow got it out! (Bridge Hole 5)
With many players away for Christmas, only 3 ladies played on Tuesday. Winner of the day was Di Day with 32 points, followed by Jodi Lehmann & Sharyn Roberts on 26 points. Jodi was runner-up on countback.
Shot of the Day! – Di Day’s second shot on Number 5, thudded into the creek. None of the 3 saw it come out. After some investigation they worked out it had actually gone into the pipe that goes under the bridge. Determined to identify the ball Jodi Lehmann got a long stick and on hands and knees managed to retrieve the ball + 2 others.
Only four ladies braved the wild windy weather with the scores reflecting the conditions. Andrea won the day with 30 points followed by Peg Gebhardt with 29 pts. Sonya Irwin 26 pts and Jodi Lehmann 21 pts. Longest putt on hole 18 winner was Sonya Irwin.
Tuesday, December 8th
Nine ladies teed off on Tuesday, welcome back Sharyn Roberts after her knee operation, and it was great to have Marj Wride coming out for a hit.
There were a couple of fantastic scores , Di Day winning with 37 points, runner up Margie Stockman 34 pts.
Nearest the pin on hole 8 was Marj Wride. Extra comp Di Day N.T.P hole 15 second shot.
Margie Stockman had chip outs hole 16 and 18
Other scores for the day were Sonya Irwin and Andrea Rowe 33 pts, Rose Duncan 32 pts, Sharyn Roberts 27 pts, Peg Gebhardt 26 pts, Jodie Lehmann 25 pts, Marj Wride 21 pts.
Barossa Valley golf – Tuesday December 15th
5 Burra girls played at the Barossa Valley golf club on Tuesday. All had a fun day, however the heat & humidity puffed them out & the scores were not good enough to make it in prize winners in the field of 46 players.
Peggy Gebhardt was the best of the bunch with 32 pts & had a ‘straight’ hitting day, coming home with 2 prizes for the Nearest to the Pins on holes 6 & 15.
Next week is the final round this year & there will be a special competition before we head out for Christmas lunch.
Five players took part in today’s 9 hole mulligan event and only 2 points separated first & last. Russell “Gus The Good GuY” Wenzel won with 18 points while Dick Secomb collected the Mars Bar with 16.
Players took advantage of near perfect conditions on Tuesday to post some good scores. Dick Cleland ran out winner with 38 points, just ahead of Pat Hallion & Neil Webster on 37, with the count back favouring Pat as runner up. Klaus Heymann took the Mars Bar with 27.
Warnings of damaging winds could not stop six intrepid golfers from returning to competition on Saturday after a suspension due to covid-19.
Andy Phillips was the only player that could cope with the wild conditions returning a handicap equalling score of square in a par round. I will not waste space mentioning the other scores here. Fans will be pleased, however, to note that colourful local identity Philip “Tommo” Thomson has returned to competition. Tommo collected the Mars Bar.
In a dramatic change of form Richard “Pickles” Matz scored a miserable 16 points in today’s stableford. Pickles has been the most successful player in the club in recent months and was unable to explain this dramatic change of fortune. His fans will be hoping that this is just a one off and that Pickles bounces back on Saturday. Today’s winner was Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel with 39 points, a fine effort in extremely windy conditions. Runner up was Pat “The Rat” Hallion who beat Dick Cleland on a count back, both scoring 35. Both were effected by the unfairness of trees as a hazard in golf although Dick was affected more than Pat.
Chris “Critta” Waters blew the field away scoring 39 stableford points. Peter Weiss was an embarrassing 6 points behind on 33. What made Critta’s performance all the more impressive was that that the strength of his gave, driving from the tee was well below his best demonstrating the improvement of his game overall. The handicapper was so impressed that he reduced Critta’s handicap by one stroke.
There was a dead heat for the Mars Bar between Bop Perry & Mark “Mouldy” Millward with Mouldy picking it up. The may explain Bob Perry’s rush to get away before the presentations.
