Closing Day of the Summer

Saturday was the final day of the summer season and interest was added by dividing the round into 3 separate competitions. The first 6 holes where played as a par round, holes 7-12 as stableford & holes 13-18 as stroke. Dick Cleland won the par comp with a blistering plus 4 for 6 holes. Runner up was Chris “Critta Waters with plus 2. The stableford competition was decided by count back with colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson & Dick Secomb both scoring 15 points for the 6 holes. Thomo got the nod on the count back. The stroke comp was won by Pat Hallion with a red hot net score of 21 2/3 from Dick Cleland with 23 2/3.

The overall winner was decided by a points system devised by club captain Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel and which I cannot fault. Overall winnner was Dick Cleland with Pat Hallion runner up. Bob Taylor got the Mars Bar.

Kobi Wenzel Takes Out Jennison Cup

12 year old Kobi Wenzel continued his David & Goliath routine defeating David “Jack” Webster in a hard fought final of the Jennison Summer Handicap Matchplay Cup. Jack faced the tough task of having to concede 17 strokes to his young opponent. Kobi took an early lead winning the 3rd hole. Jack won three in a row to go 2 up after 8, but Kobi won holes 9 & 10 to draw level. Jack won hole 11 to go 1 up, but Kobi won holes 12, 13 & 15 to go 2 up. With holes 16 & 17 halved Kobi ran out winner 2&1. Congratulations to both players on a well played & keenly contested final.

Dick Secomb takes out Mulligans

A surprisingly small field of four turned out for 9 holes of mulligans despite a beautiful Autumn morning. Even more surprising was that, with exception of Dick Secomb, the scores were extremely poor. Dick scored 20 stableford points to win by 4. Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel & Andy Phillips tied with 16 points with Gus receiving the benefit of the count back system. Dick Cleland took the Mars Bar with 15 points which can be directly attributed to 5 putts on the 13th.

Tickers Too Good

Michael “Tickers” Tickner showed calm nerves as he carded 39 stableford points in windy conditions. Dick Secomb was travelling like a winner with 2 holes to go but his game fell apart under pressure & he had to be satisfied with 2nd place with 38 points.

Bob Taylor’s day started badly & got progressively worse & he collected the Mars Bar with 24 points.

Tuesday: Pat Hallion & Critta vie for Mars Bar

Seven players faced off on Tuesday with all scoring reasonably well. Pat Hallion & Chris “Critta” Waters both scored 32 points only to find themselves contesting the Mars Bar. One of them would have received the Mars Bar on a count back but your correspondent was not there so we do not know & we do not care.
