Visiting Glenelg junior, Lachlan Murphy, showed Burra men a clean pair of heels on Saturday. Lachie scored +3 in the par event to finish 4 ahead of colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson & Dick Cleland on -1. Dick failed to negotiate the final 3 holes once again leaving Thomo runner up on a countback. Things were pretty grim for the rest of the field, with Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel -4, David “Robbie” Robinson -5, Kobi Wenzel -6, Bob Taylor -7 & Max Wiech -11. The Mars Bar went to Lachie’s father Scott so the Murphys had both ends of the field covered.

After a round on Tuesday that would have seen lesser men giving the game away, Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel took out Thursday’s 9 hole mulligan competition with 22 points. This compares with Tuesday when he could only muster 24 points in 18 holes. Runner up was David “Robbie” Robinson with 21. Robbie started the day with 3 birdies on the first 3 holes before striking tree trouble on the fourth hole (7th in normal play). Dick Secomb finished with 17 while Andrew Hall & Dick Cleland tied in the fight to avoid the Mars Bar. The confectionery went to Dick on a count back.

Five players ventured out in very cold & windy conditions and returned good scores with one exception.

David “Robbie” Robinson took the honours with 39 points while the genial Andy Phillips was runner up with 37. Chris “Critta” Waters & David “Jack” Webster both scored 35. The “Mars Bar” went to Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel with 24. Gus should have stayed at home by the fire.

Michael “Tickers” Tickner defeated Matt “Oppy” Opperman on a countback after Dick Cleland choked in spectacular fashion when in an apparently unassailable position scoring just 2 points in the last 3 holes. Tickers & Oppy scored 38 stableford points while Dick scored 37. The rest of the field were not in contention with Andy Phillips on 34, followed by Neil Webster 30, Dick Secomb 26, & Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” on 25. In other matches Chris “Critta” Waters despatched Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke 6 & 5. There is speculation that the Chook Man may be past his best.
