Chris “Critta” Waters had a bad day with 26 but Peter Oldman from Cumberland Country Club had an even worse day & was awarded the Mars Bar.
Jack Webster showed that recent handicap reductions hold no fear as he swept aside the competition on Saturday. Jack scored 40 stableford points & the handicapper has taken yet another stroke off Jack. There was a 3 way tie for 2nd between colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson, Michael “Tickers” Tickner & Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel all with 37 points. Chris “Critta” Waters scored 36 followed by Kobi Wenzel 35, & Matt Opperman 34. Visitor Peter Oldman from Cumberland Country Club in NSW scored 32. The Mars Bar went to Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen with a dismal 26.
Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke showed a liking to the dry Summer conditions scoring a dazzling 23 points last Thursday in the 9 hole mulligan competition. The effort was all the more impressive as he used only 1 mulligan. Runner up was Andrew Hall who scored 18, while Bob Taylor scored 17 & Matt McCauley took the Mars Bar with 16.
In perfect weather on Tuesday Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel scorched the earth on the front 9 going out in even par & 24 points. Alas things went awry in the closing stage with Gus scoring just 2 points on the last 2 holes for a total of 39. Meanwhile the mercurial Bob Taylor playing more steadily also put together 39 points to win comfortably on a count back.
Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke & Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen” both scored scored 35. The Chook Man is returning from the summer break where he concentrated on bowls & clearly is short of a run also fading over the closing holes. Andy Phillips scored 31 while colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson just manage to scape 30 points together. Dick Cleland’s woes continued collecting his 2nd Mars Bar in succession with 29. Dick’s game seemed to disintegrate after playing the Chook Man’s ball in error. The Chook Man was good enough to point this out AFTER the event.
Dick Secomb confirmed his title as King of Mulligans by sweeping his opposition aside today. Dick scored 25 stableford points for 9 holes leaving his opponents in his wake & proving that last week’s performance was just a hiccup. A countback was required to separate 2nd place getters David “Jack” Webster & Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel with Jack getting the nod. Both players scored 22. Andy Phillips scored 19,followed by Don Lloyd & the mercurial Bob Taylor on 18, while Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke managed only 13. Andrew Hall took the Mars Bar with 12.
Country member Graham Webster gave the locals a wake up call on Tuesday charging home on the back 9 with 24 points for a total of 43 points. Graham could well have scored several more points if not for some misfortune on the front 9. Runner up was Dick Cleland with 39, a personal best for a day following a meeting of the Burra Malt Whisky Club. The handicapper was swift to deduct a stroke from both players’ handicaps. Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel, the most consistent player in the club scored a handicap equaling 38 followed closely by Neil Webster on 37. The remaining players struggled in the benign conditions with colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson scoring 31, while Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen & Andy Phillips failed to make 30. Eddie scored 27 while Andy received the Mars Bar with 26.
Eight players took part in today’s mulligan competition which saw a four way tie for first place on 19 points. Dick Cleland took first place on a count back from Andy Phillips. The unlucky players were the erudite Don Lloyd & Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke who were both returning from a long absence. The mercurial Bob Taylor & Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen both scored 17 while a countback was required to between Andrew Hall & Dick Secomb on 14 points. Dick got the chocolate.
