Club Championship Semi Finals Next Saturday

The club championship semi finals are set down to be played next Saturday July 20. The draw is set out below.

In A grade last year’s winner & runner up, Matt Opperman & Michael “Tickers” Tickner, have qualified 1st & 2nd and seem likely to win through to the final. Both Pat Hallion & David “Jack” Webster, however, are capable of an upset on their day.

In the A grade plate I am tipping a double upset with 3rd & 4th qualifiers Mark “Mouldy” Millward & colourful local identity Philip “Tommo” Thomson to go through to the final.

In Division 2 Kobi Wenzel looks to be the one to watch after his strong showing in the Bogisch Cup.

Bogisch Cup Quarter Finals

The Bogisch Cup quarter finals were played on Saturday. In the match of the day Pat Hallion had to go all the way to the 18th to beat Kobi Wenzel 1up. Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel beat Matt Opperman 3&2. Chris “Critta” Waters, who bundled out colourful local identity Philip “Tommo” Thomson in the first round, beat Peter Weiss 3&2. Michael “Tickers” Tickner showed he is returning to top form with an easy win over Dick Cleland 7&5.

Four players not required for Bogisch Cup duties played a stableford competition. This was won by Boh Wall with 34 points from David “Jack” Webster 33, Mark “Mouldy” Millward 32 and Trevor Maxted, who took theMars Bar, with 26.

Matt McCauley wins Par Round Debacle

Five players not required for Bogisch Cup duties played a par round on Saturday, and the results were alarming to say the least, apart from the winner & runner up. Matt McCauley won with a respectable score of 1 up while runner up, Michael “Tickers” Tickner, scored one down. Alas, the remaining scores were unbelievably bad. Chris “Critta” Waters and Peter Weiss returned scores of -6 while Andy Phillips took the Mars Bar with -11 (yes minus eleven).

Schoolboy Thrashes Teacher

Four matches of the first round of the Bogisch Handicap Matchplay Cup were played on Saturday. Schoolboy Kobi Wenzel convincingly beat local school teacher Mark “Mouldy” Millward 5 and 3, the biggest margin of the afternoon. Other results were Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel defeated Bob Taylor 4 and2, Matt Opperman defeated Neil Webster 4 & 3 and Dick Cleland defeated Trevor Maxted 3 and 2.

There remain two matches of the round to be decided before the quarter finals due to be played next Saturday. David “Jack” Webster is to play Peter Weiss while the unbridled power of Chris “Critta” Waters is to be matched against the wily cunning of colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson.

Apalling Scores in Mulligans

Despite benign conditions the scores in today’s Mulligans are the worst in living memory. Bob Taylor won with an average score of 18 points and Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel was runner up with 17. But after that came David “Jack” Webster with 13, Andrew Hall, Andy Phillips & Dick Cleland each with 12, Dick Secomb with 11 and Mars Bar recipient Peter Mengerson with 9.

Tuesday Golf: Pat Hallion Cruises to Victory

Pat Hallion is showing good form as the championship playoffs draw nearer. Pat scored 38 points on Tuesday to win comfortably from Trevor Maxted & David “Jack” Webster who both scored 36. Andy Phillips returned from a trip away to score 35 while visitor, Anton Devent from Moe Golf Club scored 34. Michael “Tickers” Tickner continues to give his supporters concern with continuing poor form leading up to the championships. Michael could only manage 33 points. Of the rest the less said the better. Graham Webster scored 29, Bob Taylor 28 and Klaus Heymann took the Mars Bar with 20.

Bogisch Cup Draw – Round of 16 Next Saturday

The round of 16 of the Bogisch Handicap Matchplay Cup is scheduled for next Saturday June 29. Any player unable to play on Saturday must contact his opponent prior to Saturday to arrange an alternative time for their match. All matches must be completed prior to the scheduled date of the next round. The top of the qualifiers list is dominated by A graders this year so we can expect some tough matches by the time we reach the semi finals.

Saturday’s Results

Saturday saw the final qualifying round of the club championships & the Bogisch Cup played. Details of qualifiers & matches will be issued separately.

Saturday’s competition was won by Matt Opperman with a net 70 (81 gross) demonstrating that he will have to be taken seriously in the championship matchplay. Runner up was Michael “Tickers” Tickner with a net 73. Other results suggest that these 2 players, who were finalists last year, should play off in the final again this year.

Kobi Wenzel received the Mars Bar, while Chris “Critta” Water’s handicap has gone out 1 stroke.

Dick Cleland Takes 2nd Mars Bar in a Row

Only 3 players played in today’ mulligans with Michael “Tickers” Tickner winning with 20 points. Bob Taylor & Dick Cleland tied with 16. There was no 2nd prize.

Tickers had come out to get his game back on track before the final cub championship qualifying round on Saturday. While he appears to have taken steps to do so it will be interesting to see how he goes without the benefit of mulligans.
