Andrew Hall proved far to strong for his opponents scoring 23 points in today’s 9 hole mulligan event. The only player to offer any resistance was mulligan specialist Dick Secomb who finished with 21. It was a close run for the Mars Bar with Dick Cleland taking the confectionery with 13 just behind David “Jack” Webster on 14.
Michael “Tickers” Tickner took out today’s stableford with 37 points. Runner up was Dick Cleland was second with 35, edging out Andy Phillips on a count back. In form player Pat Hallion failed to fire finishing with just 32 but he shouldn’t be written off just yet. Derek Fletcher took the Mars Bar with 22 points.
A good field of 12 played but scores were disappointing, with players possibly having difficulty with the lack of wind.

Pat Hallion continues to take all before him winning Saturday’s par competition with a score of +2. Pat’s Handicap has now dropped from 18 to 14 since December 29, but this seems to have no effect. The closest to Pat were a group of 5 players on -1, with Mark “Mouldy” Millward gaining 2nd on a count back. At the other end of the field a count back was required to determine the Mars Bar with Dick Cleland & Andy Spackman both on -3. Andy received the chocolate.

If today’s results are any indication, we are in for some cracking golf in 2019. Dick Cleland emerged from weeks in Mars Bar territory while Pat Hallion continued his surge towards form of days gone by. Both scored 43 stableford points with Dick prevailing on a count back. Dick could only manage 24 points on Saturday so his new year resolution to get some practice seems to be paying off already, although he hasn’t started yet. The mercurial Bob Taylor & Trevor Maxted both scored 42. The handicapper was ruthless, deducting 1 stroke from the handicaps of all four..

For those who celebrate the New Year with moderation, men’s golf will be on as usual for a Tuesday with a 9:00 am for 9:30 am hit off. The weather forecast is for a maximum of 32 deg C with wind from the South to South East, thus promising pleasant conditions for golf.

The Burra Golf Club held the Thomo Classic 64 Stableford competition to celebrate the 64th birthday of colourful & popular local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson & despite the busy time of year 12 players made a special effort to attend.
Today’s winner was the equally popular Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen whose score of 40 points shows that he is well and truly back to his best form. Runner up was Chris “Critta” Waters with 37.

All of the scores were not brilliant with Mark “Mouldy” Millward taking the Mars Bar with just 25 points.

Fifteen players turned out for the unique par 3 contest devised by popular Club Captain Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel despite the possible bias in the handicapping system.
It was no surprise that Gus The Good Guy won the competition, although a count back was required to split Gus & Matt McAuley. The unique contest comprises 20 holes therefore with a par of 60. Scores were spread from net 61 by the winners to net 74.
Nearest the pins winners were Kobi Wenzel hole 4, Andy Phillips hole 8 & Dick Cleland hole 11.
A birdie comp was held where every birdie scored won a golf ball. Winners were: Jack Webster, Matt McAuley, Critta Waters (2),Thomo & Andy Phillips.
Michael “Tickers” Tickner mastered the tough blustery conditions to comfortably win today’s mulligan competition with 19 points. The strong winds caused problems for the other competitors with Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel next best with 17.
