Mercurial Bob Taylor took out Thursday’s Mulligan competition for the 2nd week in a row. Despite a late fade Bob held off Michael “Tickers” Tickner by 1 point 20 points to 19. Andy Phillips & David “Jack” Webster both scored 18 followed by Dick Cleland on 17. Peter Mengerson scored 15 after blowing the final hole while Andrew Hall took the Mars Bar.

Only 6 players ventured out into the low temperatures & high winds on Saturday, the rest are a bunch of wimps.

Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel & Neil Webster played their  Bogisch Cup quarter final with Neil proving too strong 3&2. This supports my theory that a bye in the first round is a disadvantage as your competitor comes with recent successful match play experience.

The remaining 4 players played a par round with Andy Phillips proving too  strong yet again with a score of plus 1. Mark “Mouldy” Millward put up a creditable display to finish second all square despite his game being unsuitable for windy weather. Dick Cleland finished with -3 while Michael “Tickers” Tickner took the Mars Bar with -5. All players started strongly and were all a chance at the turn but the conditions gradually wore down Dick & Tickers.

Mercurial Bob Ignores Strong Winds

Players faced wild & windy conditions for today’s mulligans. The mercurial Bob Taylor seemed to ignore the wind scoring an effortless 22 stableford points. Runner up was Michael “Tickers” Tickner enjoying retirement & playing mulligans for the first time. Michael scored 20 points. Dick Cleland & Andy Phillips both scored 17 points. The rest of the field struggled in the wind with David “Jack” Webster 13, Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel 12, Peter Mengerson 11 & Sam Cleland took the Mars Bar once again with 7.

Andy Phillips has proved his critics wrong. Despite strong winds that made scoring difficult Andy was able to post a handicap equalling 38 stableford points, something his opponents could not do. Next best were Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel & Dick Cleland on 34 points with the count back favouring Gus. The mercurial Bob Taylor & David “Jack” Webster scored 33 while David “Robbie” Robinson scored 29. Chris “Critta” Waters completed the round without losing a ball, the first time anyone can remember this happening. This did not, however, prevent Critta from receiving the Mars Bar with 27 points.

The Best of the Rest

Andrew Spackman

Players not involved in Bogisch Cup duties on Saturday played a stableford competition. The only player to show any form was Andy Spackman who won easily with a score of 37. The runner up, 4 points back on 33 was colourful local sporting identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson. Thomo’s round was encouraging, however, as he is coming back from injury and should soon be in top form. He scored 19 points on the homeward 9 which will be extremely encouraging to all of his fans. Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel was next with 31 followed by Michael “Tickers” Tickner on 29. Andy Phillips’ run of good form seems to have come to an end managing just 27 points following a disappointing performance in Thursday’s mulligans. The Mars Bar went to the mercurial Bob Taylor with just 23 points.
