Burra Golf Course Closed Until Further Notice

Covid-19 measures introduced by the Government have meant that all golf courses in Australia should be closed.

The health of all members and visitors are of prime concern and the committee has acted quickly following the latest government announcements and advice from Golf Australia. The clubhouse was closed a week ago and will remain closed.

We have tried to keep the course open while meeting social distancing guidelines but given the tightening of these it is no longer possible. It was our aim to provide the opportunity for members to continue to get exercise. Unfortunately, according to the government, golf does not rate as an exercise.

We will open the course again once it is deemed safe to do so. In the meantime please keep safe.

Tournament Favorite Eliminated in Semi Final

Tommo in Happier Times

Colourful local identity, Philip “Tommo” Thomson was the firm favourite to win this years Jennison Handicap Matchplay Cup until he had to play the club’s oldest active member today.

Tommo broke out the blocks in fine style winning the first hole. Unfortunately it was the only hole that Tommo won. Despite a minimal difference in handicap Tommo was unable to stem the tide going down 6 & 5 to Dick Cleland. This result has thrown the betting markets into disarray. Dick will play the winner of the other semi final between Mark “Mouldy” Millward & Peter Weiss which will be played next week.

This is Dick’s easiest win in the competition so far with both of his previous matches going to the 19th.

The Flying Dutchman Returns

Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen smashed the field in today’s par bisque. In a game that requires both good golf and the intelligence to manage the use of handicap strokes Eddie excelled in both. Runner up was Mark “Mouldy” Millward on plus 4. Both Eddie & Mouldy scored -1 in normal par scoring, demonstrating Eddie’s uncanny ability to maximize his handicap strokes under this format. Chris “Critta” Waters collected the Mars Bar with -4.

  • -1 Edward Van Keulen, Mark Millward
  • -2 Russell Wenzel
  • -3 Robert Perry
  • -4 Kobi Wenzel
