The Mulligan Specialist Strikes Again

Mulligan specialist Dick Secomb was too good once again despite the excellent scores by other players. Only 5 players fronted in beautiful conditions for golf and a mark of the good scores was the Mars Bar going to David  “Jack” Webster with 19 points.

Andrew Hall Wins High Scoring Mulligans

Andrew Hall scored 22 stableford points to win today’s 9 hole mulligan competition by one point from Andy Phillips.

Kobi Wenzel Beats Senior Field

Kobi Wenzel won yesterday’s stableford with 39 points despite fading on the back 9. Runner up was Bob Taylor with 37 on a 4 way count back from Mark “Mouldy” Millward, colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson & Dick Cleland. Dick seemed to choke having accumulated 30 points after 12 but could only manage 7 points on the last 6.

There was then a big gap to Michael “Tickers” Tickner on 33, David “Jack” Webster 30, & Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel 29. The Mars Bar went to Pat Hallion with 24 points.

Burra Hotels’ Ambrose

The Burra Hotels Ambrose was held today with 34 players competing.

In the handicap event: 

The winning team was the Ted Mullary Gang from Clare comprising Phil Dohnt, Ted Dickinson  Snipper Bennett & Phil Skeers, who scored a gross score of 62 to beat the Burra Mercurials (Michael “Tickers” Tickner, the mercurial Bob Taylor, David “Jack” Webster & Neil Webster) on a count back.

In the handicap event:

  • the Burra Mercurials won with a net 52
  • in 2nd place with a net 57 was Team: Albert despite losing their number 1 player Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke at the last minute. The team comprised Dick Cleland, Sam Cleland, Bob Perry & Andrew Hall,
  • 3rd Burra Hotel (Michael Shepley, Paul O’Brien, Pat Hallion & colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson) net 58.5.
  • 4th The Cadell Mexicans  net 60.625 (Ken Fey, Scott McDona;d, Rod Zerner, Cody Campbell).
  • 5th Team Mark net 61.5 (Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel, Kobi Wenzel,Mark “Mouldy” Millward & Andrew Spackman).
  • 6th Team Peterborough net 61.5 (P Brearley, R Haggerty, D Norman & K Heymann).
  • 7th Riverton net 62 ( Rob BraLidsma, Brian Reaney, Des Lowry & Matt McCauley).

Team Albert got into some trouble on hole 3 when all 4 players drove out of bounds. They all played their 3rd from the tee & 3 of those went out of bounds.

Jack Webster Wins Mulligans for Second Week in a Row

David “Jack” Webster continued his brilliant form of late to score 23 points in today’s 9 hole mulligan competition. Runner up was Michael “Tickers’ Tickner with a creditable 22 points.Dick Cleland finished third with 20 points followed by Andrew Hall 19,Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel 17 & Bob Taylor 16. A count back was required to separate Peter Mengerson, Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke & Kobi Wenzel for the Mars Bar, all of them having finished with 14 points. Kobi got the confectionery after the count back was applied.

Program of Fun & Information for Golf Club AGM

The Golf Club AGM will be held on October 25 and all members are urged to attend. Nomination forms for committee are available in the clubhouse and must be returned to the secretary by October 18.

The program is set below. Times are approximate :

  • 4:00 pm – 2 man 9 hole Ambrose
  • 6:30 pm – Free BBQ
  • 7:30 pm – AGM
  • 8:00 pm – Members discussion of business plan & future direction of the cub

Refreshments will be available from the bar throughout the night.

Derek Fletcher Posts Big Score – Handicapper Makes Big Adjustment

Derek Fletcher scored 46 stableford points to  win today’s competition. The assistant handicapper then made possibly the biggest handicap adjustment made anywhere in the world reducing Derek’s handicap by ten strokes. “Such scores cannot be tolerated” said the assistant handicapper, “the handicapper has been too soft”.

Runner up was the in form David “Jack” Webster with 39 followed by Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel 37, Dick Cleland 36, Mark “Mouldy” Millward & Michael “Tickers” Tickner 32, and colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson 30. The Mars Bar went to Phillip Taylor with 22.
