Gordon “THe Chook Man” Kakoschke is making a habit of running second. This time it was Chris “Critta” Waters who pipped the Chook Man by one stroke. Critta scored a creditable 40 stableford points to Gordon’s 39. Colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” thomson was third with 37 followed by Matt Opperman & Andy Phillips with 36. Neil Webster & Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel finished on 33 while Michael “Tickers” Tickner scored 31 & Kobi Wenzel 27.

In a shock result Dick Cleland took the Mars Bar with 26.

Matt Opperman played a perfectly weighted 9 iron to the 103 metre par 8th hole on Saturday. Matt allowed for the slope of the green landing his ball slightly to the left of the hole allowing it to take two bounces to the right before disappearing into the hole.

While many players consider a hole in one on the 8th to be merely a “chip in” it should be remembered that Matt has aced the 4th hole, one of the more difficult par 3s in the Mid North.

Dick Secombe was too good for his mulligan opponents yet again.  Dick scored 19 points to win comfortably from Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke & Dick Cleland who were both on 17. The Chook Man was runner up on a countback. The mercurial Bob Taylor & David “Jack” Webster both scored 15 while it was a close thing for the Mars Bar with Peter Menegerson on 12 just avoiding it from Andrew Hall on 11.

CCTV revealed 2 intruders at the Golf Club last night. Fortunately the premises were not enetered.

Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke found himself in familiar territory losing the Russell Nichols Memorial trophy on a count back to Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel. Both players had 38 points but The Chook Man’s repeated poor performances on the back 9 raises questions on his stamina. Third placed was the congenial Dick Secomb well back, however, on 34. Michael “Tickers” Tickner, Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen & David “Jack” Webster were all tied on 31 while the mercurial Bob Taylor scored 30.

The Mars Bar went to colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” thomson with a very disappointing 26.

It was encouraging for the club to have 2 juniors playing with Kobi Wenzel scoring 20 while Bradtke Stockman playing just his second round off the men’s tees finished with  13.

Chris “Critta” Waters won the much delayed Bogisch Match Play Cup in a closely fought match over Dick Cleland. With the score level after 16 holes Critta took out the final 2 holes to finish 2 up. Critta managed to control his often wayward game only going out of bounds 4 times over the 18 holes. The margin was never more than 2 but Critta was never headed throughout.

Peg Gebhardt also represented Burra in the Bronze, but did not feature in the trophies on the day.

Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen was in top form Tuesday scoring 38 points to win comfortably from Neil Webster on 36. What was pleasing about the Dutchman’s performance was his strong showing on the homeward 9. The small field was tightly packed at the halfway mark with Dick Cleland leading on 18, from Eddie & Neil on 17 & Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel on 16. Eddie came home best while the Burra Malt Whisky tasting on Monday night appeared to take its toll on Dick who finished third with 35. Gus maintained equilibrium finishing with 32, while the mercurial Bob Taylor had a rough day collecting the Mars Bar with 24.

The handicapper rewarded the Dutchman with a handicap reduction.

Despite the best conditions for golf in 10 years only 5 players turned up on Saturday. Visitor Klaus Heymann was forced to retire due to injury leaving 4 to battle it out.

David “Jack” Webster was the only player to match the weather with his golf. Jack scored a net 69 to break his handicap by one stroke. Runner up was colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson with net 82, a score that would normally be in the running for the Mars Bar. Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke managed net 85 while poor old Trevor Austin received the Mars Bar with net 96.

New junior member Bradyke Stockmen played his first round with the senior members and it will not be long before he surpasses his fellow competitors from Saturday.

 

Despite forecasts of rain being highly likely, 5 players set uot

on Tuesday. Conditions for the first 8 holes were good but on the 9th the rain started and slowly got heavier as the day progressed. After 9 holes Dick Cleland & Chris “Critta” Waters  led with 17 with colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson close behind on 16. Dick & Thomo failed in the wet conditions managing only 10 & 11 respectively on the homeward 9. Critta on the other hand held his form scoring 15 on the back 9 to finish with 32. Thomo was runner up on a count back. The other players were more consistent with their front & back 9’s with Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke going 13/12 for 25 while David “Jack” Webster had an even 10/10 for 20 & the Mars Bar.
