Mulligan specialist, Dick Secomb, has once again stamped his authority on the event. Today Dick needed a countback to beat Dick Cleland with both scoring 19 points. Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke, who finished third with 17, showed promising signs of improvement. Bob Taylor scored 15, while Andrew Hall suffering from lack of match practice, took the Mars Bar.
Colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson returned from a golfing sojourn to the Fleurieu Peninsula in hot form. Thomo scored 41 stableford points to win by a margin of 7. This immediately drew the attention of the acting handicapper who immediately deducted 1 stroke from Thomo’s handicap.
Runner up with 34 points was visitor Greg Mosey who played with the ladies. Remarkably Dick Cleland was the only other player to reach 30 points (just making it). Godon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke scored 27 followed by the Webster brothers Neil & David (Jack) on a mere 23.
Brett Wallis
The Mars Bar went to Brett Wallis for the 2nd week in a row.
The acting handicapper awarded The Chook Man another stroke, the 2nd in just a week. It is rumoured that The Chook Man and the acting handicapper are mates.
Members are advised that there will be a working bee on the golf course next Sunday. The objective is to remove turf from around sprinkler heads to enable maintenance to be carried out before the hot weather arrives. Please bring a spade.
If you are unable to come on Sunday you are encouraged to come out whenever you can. Work will start on the 17th fairway where there are already examples of how the work should be carried out.
We look forward to a good turnout. Many hands make light work.
Shawn “Sheep” Rayson showed that an extended absence from the golf course was no obstacle to success being the only player in positive figures in the par event Shawn returned a card of +2 to win convincingly from runner up Dick Secomb on -1. Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel & Michael “Tickers” Tickner scored -2 followed by David “Robbie” Robinson -3.
The Chook Man
Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke failed to fire despite his new cover for his driver finishing with -4. Bill McMahon & Dick Cleland scored -5 while Kobi Wenzel & Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen had -6. Bradtke Stockman took the Mars Bar but his results continue to improve.
In the handicapper’s absence the acting handicapper is proving once again to be most generous. Both Gus The Good Guy and Bill McMahon have been awarded an extra stroke each in order to encourage them.
David “Jack” Webster was in top form this morning for the Thursday Mulligan 9 Holes. Despite the cold & windy conditions Jack scored 20 stableford points to win comfortably. Runner up was Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke with 16 points. Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel was next with 15, while Dick Cleland had 14. A count back was required to determine the recipient of the Mars Bar wth Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen & the mercurial Bob Taylor both scoring 12 points. Bob was awarded the Mars Bar
Dick Cleland defeated Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel on a count back to win the men’s mid-week stableford. Both players scored 36 points but Dick was stronger on the homeward 9. The mercurial Bob Taylor bounced back from Saturday’s disappointing form to finish 3rd with 34 while David “Jack” Webster scored 33. The rest of the field failed to reach 30 points. Gordon “The Chook Man” kakoschke managed just 28 despite the acting handicapper generously giving him an extra stoke. Neil Webster scored 25, while Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen returning from injury scored 23. Eddie’s score did not do him credit as there were glimpses of the Flying Dutchman of old. The Mars Bar went to Brett Wallis who returned after a long absence and he will benefit from the outing. Brett scored 18.
Dick Cleland has reduced his playing handicap at Burra to 13 while Jack Webster has gone out 1 stroke to 16.
Colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson finally put a good round together to win Saturday’s stroke competition by 9 strokes. Thomo scored 80 off the stick for a net 66, the third best stroke result this season. Runner up was Michael “Tickers” Tickner with an ordinary net 75. The trio of Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke, David “Jack” Webster & Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel all scored net 77. Dick Cleland scored an embarrassing net 84 & was only saved from the Mars Bar by the mercurial Bob Taylor who scored net 87.
Andy Phillips took out Thursday’s mulligans with a creditable 19 points. His opponents, however, did not fare so well. Runner up was Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel with a very ordinary 16 points. Kobi Wenzel scored 14, while Andrew Hall scored 12 and Bradtke Stockman took the Mars Bar with 11.
It is worth pointing out the Kobi & Bradtke are still in their sub-teens and they won’t be dwelling at the bottom of the table for long.
