The mulligan group has adopted the World handicapping system which will be introduced in 2020, and all players gave it the thumbs up. The major changes are the adjustment of daily handicaps to account for the difference between the course scratch rating & par & the increase in the maximum handicap to 54.
Andrew Hall scored 22 points to beat Dick Cleland 21 points. Andrew needed to score 3 points on the last hole to pull clear. Mulligan specialist Dick Secomb was third with a disappointing 14 points while Trevor Maxted took the Mars Bar with 12.
In a perfect warm up for the Jennison Cup final to be played on Saturday against colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson, Chris “Critta’ Waters took out today’s comp with 35 points. Runner up was Dick Cleland who choked in spectacular fashion scoring 34 points with 22/12 splits. Russell “Gus The Good Guy” scored 33 followed by David “Jack’ Webster & Pat Hallion 30, Neil Webster 27 & the Mars Bar went to yesterday’s star Paul Smedley with 23.
Mark “Mouldy” Millward proudly displays the Unicorn Brewery Trophy.
Popular men’s vice captain, Mark “Mouldy” Millward won the 2018 Heritage Classic with 40 stableford points. Mouldy looked set for a score in the mid 40’s but looked a bit shaky on holes 16 & 17 before steadying himself on the final hole. Runner up was leading female Reva Cullen with 39 points. Bob Perry was third on a count back from Andy Spackman & Neville Kelly (Renmark) all finishing on 38. Danish visitor Paul Smedley was given a provisional handicap of 24 & finished with 43 points. Unfortunately Paul was ineligible for the main prize as his handicap was not official, but a great effort nonetheless. We all look forward to playing with Paul over the coming weeks as he has an extended stay in Burra.
Other scores were Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel 36; David Jack Webster 35; Gary Weymouth (Emu GC) 33; Trevor Maxted, Peter Seidel (Crystal Brook), colourful local sporting identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson, Chris “Critta” Waters 32; Roly Haggerty (Peterborough), David Norman (Peterborough) Alex O’Dea (Peterborough) 31; Dick Cleland, Kobi Wenzel 29; Klaus Heymann (Tarcowie) 26; Andrew Hall 25, Peter Brearley (Peterborough) 22; and the Mars Bar went to Luke Spackman with 21.
Kobi Wenzel routed today’s field with an incredible 46 points. The handicapper reduced the 11 year old’s handicap by 2 strokes which is little comfort to the other members. In the group ahead Chris “Critta” Waters & Dick Cleland had a great battle which normally may have decided the winner but they fell well short. Critta got a great start but Dick’s greater fitness saw him catch Critta to finish second on a count back. Both scored 40 points, 6 behind the winner. Next best was Mark “Mouldy” Millward with 35, followed by Andrew Spackman 34, colourful local sporting identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson & Russell “Gus THe Good Guy” Wenzel 32, Michael “Tickers” Tickner & David “Jack” Webster 31, Andrew Phillips 25 with the Mars Bar going to Tarcowie visitor Klaus Heymann 21.
In a shock result, mulligan specialist Dick Secomb faltered over the closing stages of Thursday’s mulligans to finish with the Mars Bar. On the other hand the mercurial Bob Taylor maintained good form throughout to take the competition with 22 points. Runner up was Andrew Hall with 20 points. Andrew was the beneficiary of the early adoption of the 2020 handicap changes in our mulligan competitions.
Dick Cleland & Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel both scored 19 while David “Jack” Webster & Dick Secomb scored 16 with Jack avoiding the Mars Bar on a count back.
Chris “Critta Waters defeated Davis “Jack” Webster 2&1 to book a date in the Jennison Cup final with colourful local sporting identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson. The match was a see-saw affair with Jack gaining an early lead before Critta found his form and finished strongly.
On today’s form Critta would be favoured to take out the final but both players are chronically inconsistent so the betting is wide open.
Despite good conditions, the best score today was 32 stableford points scored by Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel. Runner up was the mercurial Bob Taylor with 31. Andy Phillips & Glenn Johnson scored 30, followed by Dick Cleland & colourful local sporting identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson on 27. Trevor Maxted scored 26 but the Mars Bar went to Neil Webster with 24.
Mulligan specialist Dick Secomb stepped up to blow the field away in today’s 18 hole stableford. Dick scored a magnificent 42 points to win by 4 points. Runner up was Dick Cleland with 38. Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel was next 36, followed by Chris “Critta” Waters 35, Mark “Mouldy” Millward & Kobi Wenzel 33, Klaus Heymann 28 & the Mars Bar went to Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen with a very disappointing score.
Michael “Tickers” Tickner was unable to produce the form that saw him win last week & he went down to colourful local sporting identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson 5&4 in their semi final. Thomo played tough match play golf preventing Tickers from getting back into the game.
The other semi final between Chris “Critta” Waters & David “Jack” Webster will be played on Tuesday.
This week’s mulligan competition was won by Peterborough member David Norman with a score of 23 stableford points. Runner up was Andy Phillips who beat mulligan specialist Dick Secomb on a count back. Both scored 21 points. Dick was in a strong position after 6 holes but atypically faded over the final 3 holes. Dick Cleland scored 20 points followed by David “Jack” Webster & the mercurial Bob Taylor on 17. The Mars Bar went to a disappointed Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke.
