Andy Phillips actually improved on Saturday’s blistering performance. Even with his handicap reduced one stroke he improved his score to 44 stableford points winning by an incredible margin of 8 points. His handicap has been reduced again by 1 stroke.
The runner up, well in arrears, was Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen who continues to enjoy improved consistency. David “Jack” Webster & colourful local identity, Philip “Thomo” Thomson scored 35, followed by Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel 34 & Dick Cleland 33. Despite a good start of 18 points on the front 9, Bob Perry faded on the homeward run to take the Mars Bar with 30.
As the heat wave continued, Andy Phillips showed that the heat was not a problem to him scoring a scorching 43 stableford points for an emphatic victory. Runner up was Dick Cleland who together with Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen had the wisdom to play in the morning. Dick scored 37. Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel was next with 35, followed by the Dutchman & Michael “Tickers” Tickner on 34 & Chris “Critta” waters on 33. The Mars Bar went to colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson with 31. Thomo appeared to be quite distressed by the heat at the conclusion of his round.
Four intrepid golfers showed their toughness on Thursday ignoring the 40 degree forecast to play 9 hole mulligans.
Dick Cleland was successful with 19 points while Andy Phillips was runner up with 16. Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel scored 15 while the Mars Bar went to colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson with 12.
Playing in the morning our heroes avoided the heat of the day with the temperature only reaching 39.7 by the time they finished.
Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen bounced back from his surprise defeat on Saturday to score 43 points on Tuesday romping away with the stableford comp by 4 points. Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel was second with 39 followed by Andy Phillips & Bob Taylor on 36. Colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson scored 35 while David “Jack” webster scored 32. There was no contest for the Mars Bar with Dick Cleland taking it with 21 points.
Handicapper, Andy Phillips, acted quickly taking another stroke from the Dutchman down to 26, a reduction now of 4 strokes since mid January. Mysteriously the handicapper gave himself an extra stroke.
The first round of the Jennison Summer Match Play Cup were held on Saturday with several upsets. Dick Cleland jumped the more favoured Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen to establish a commanding early lead. The Dutchman never recovered & Dick closed out the match 6/5.

Club Champion Michael “Tickers” Tickner saw a potential match winning lead of 2 up with 4 to play dissolve before his eyes losing all four remaining holes to lose 2 down to Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel. Much has been written about the need to be physically fit to be able to play out 18 holes.

Mark “Mouldy” Millward & David “Jack” Webster both received byes in the first round & took the opportunity to play their quarter final. Mouldy would have been better off spending the time working on his game & his fitness. Mouldy was 4 up after 9 only to see Jack level the score after 16, before finally delivering the fatal blow on the 20th.

Three players not playing matches played a stableford competition with Andy Phillips once again showing his good form & fitness posting 20 points on each 9 for a comfortable win over Matt McCauley on 36. Matt matched it with Andy for 9 holes but faded on the back 9. The Mars Bar went to Chris “Critta’ Waters with 32 points.
Dick Secomb played inspired golf to score 21 points in today”s 9 hole mulligan competition. Dick was 2 strokes clear of Andy Phillips & Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel locked on 19. Andy took 2nd on a count back as Gus faltered badly over the last 3 holes. Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen scored 18, followed by Denis Little & Bob Taylor on 16. Dick Cleland continues to struggle taking the Mars Bar with 13 managing only 3 points in the last 4 holes.
The mercurial Bob Taylor produced one of his better rounds to win today’s stableford with 41 points. Bob played consistent golf throughout with a slight improvement on the back 9. Runner up was David “Jack” Webster with 38 points on a count back from Derek Fletcher. Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel scored 37 followed by Andy Phillips & colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson with 35. Thomo managed to avoid a back 9 fade due to an ordinary front 9. Dick Cleland finished with 33 after being last at the turn with 14 managing to get by Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen 30 & Mar Bar recipient David “Robbie” Robinson 28, who both faded on the run home.
To correct an anomaly in the draw Mark “Mouldy” Millward has been moved from position #2 to #5. Both Mouldy & Bob Perry will now have a bye in the first round. Mouldy will now face a tough quarter final against the in form David “Jack” Webster. Bob Perry will face a somewhat easier task in playing the winner of the Van Keulen/Cleland match.
