
Nine juniors took part in a fun day last Friday as part of Golf Week.
A competition was held as part of the activities with Amber Evers from Tanunda winning the girls event with 40 points & Burra’s Kobi Wenzel winning the boys event with 35 points

Kobi Wenzel won yesterday’s stableford with 39 points despite fading on the back 9. Runner up was Bob Taylor with 37 on a 4 way count back from Mark “Mouldy” Millward, colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson & Dick Cleland. Dick seemed to choke having accumulated 30 points after 12 but could only manage 7 points on the last 6.
There was then a big gap to Michael “Tickers” Tickner on 33, David “Jack” Webster 30, & Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel 29. The Mars Bar went to Pat Hallion with 24 points.
The Burra Hotels Ambrose was held today with 34 players competing.
In the handicap event:
The winning team was the Ted Mullary Gang from Clare comprising Phil Dohnt, Ted Dickinson Snipper Bennett & Phil Skeers, who scored a gross score of 62 to beat the Burra Mercurials (Michael “Tickers” Tickner, the mercurial Bob Taylor, David “Jack” Webster & Neil Webster) on a count back.

In the handicap event:
Team Albert got into some trouble on hole 3 when all 4 players drove out of bounds. They all played their 3rd from the tee & 3 of those went out of bounds.

David “Jack” Webster continued his brilliant form of late to score 23 points in today’s 9 hole mulligan competition. Runner up was Michael “Tickers’ Tickner with a creditable 22 points.Dick Cleland finished third with 20 points followed by Andrew Hall 19,Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel 17 & Bob Taylor 16. A count back was required to separate Peter Mengerson, Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke & Kobi Wenzel for the Mars Bar, all of them having finished with 14 points. Kobi got the confectionery after the count back was applied.

The Golf Club AGM will be held on October 25 and all members are urged to attend. Nomination forms for committee are available in the clubhouse and must be returned to the secretary by October 18.

Derek Fletcher scored 46 stableford points to win today’s competition. The assistant handicapper then made possibly the biggest handicap adjustment made anywhere in the world reducing Derek’s handicap by ten strokes. “Such scores cannot be tolerated” said the assistant handicapper, “the handicapper has been too soft”.
Runner up was the in form David “Jack” Webster with 39 followed by Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel 37, Dick Cleland 36, Mark “Mouldy” Millward & Michael “Tickers” Tickner 32, and colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson 30. The Mars Bar went to Phillip Taylor with 22.

With one exception all players scored well in today’s 9 hole mulligan event. Winner was David “Jack” Webster who is continuing his top form with 23 points. Runner up was the much improved Dick Cleland with 21 on a count back from Peter Mengerson. Russell “Gus The Good guy” Wenzel, Matt McCauley & Andy Phillips all scored 20, followed by the mercurial Bob Taylor & Andrew Hall on 19, & Michael “Tickers” Tickner on 18. The odd man out was Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke who only managed 11 points.

Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel won the Fisher Trophy for the most consistent mid week player for the winter season. Gus showed his consistency again today putting together a solid 37 points to finish runner up. Today’s results were P Thomson 40 points, Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel 37, the mercurial Bob Taylor & Michael “Tickers” Tickner 35, David “Jack” Webster 32, Andy Phillips & Dick Cleland 30, and the Mars Bar went to Neil Webster with 26.
