A small field of 6 played on Tuesday as many, no doubt, were exhausted from their efforts in the Heritage Classic. The Heritage Classic field were lucky that Jack spent the public holiday selling motor spirit to those that could afford it rather than playing golf.
Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel took the Mars Bar
A 3 way tie saw the 2022 Heritage Classic go to Lewis Fogden winning over local players Matt McCauly and Kobi Wenzel, all scoring 38 points. David “Robbie” Robinson was one back on 37. Popular local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson disappointed finishing in the middle of the pack.
Big Trev Maxted score a blistering 40 stableford points to cruise to an easy victory on Saturday March 12. Poor old Richard “Pickles” Matz was runner up with a very respectable 38 points, a score that would often win. The less said the better about the rest of the field. Ben Dunstan received the Mars Bar.
David “Robbie” Robinson returned to top form on Wednesday after a frustrating day on the clubs on Saturday. Robbie was the only player to break his handicap in windy conditions returning 37 stableford points. Runner up was Neil Webster on 35, knocking Andy Phillips off on a count back. “Pickles” Matz took the Mars Bar.
The Jennison Handicap Matchplay Cup semi-finals were decided on Saturday. Peter Weiss continues to power his way through opponents to become the bookmakers favourite for the final. Peter defeated Richard “Pickles” Matz 3&2 in a fine display of power golf. In the other semi-final Dick Cleland continued to outwit his opponents beating Big Trev Maxted 4&2. Dick continued to show the guile built up over countless years on golf courses.

The players bundled out of the Jennison Cup previously played a stroke round, no doubt due to lobbying by the lower handicap players. This was won by Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel with a net 71, one stroke ahead of Pat Hallion. Kael Harkness took the Mars Bar.
Burra golf club held a successful Farmers day on Friday March 4th. 11 teams played in perfect weather & all enjoyed a great day. Thank you to our sponsors for supporting the day.
Philip “Tommo” Thomson won Tuesday’s stableford with an outstanding score of 37. Tommo was points 2 clear of Big Trevor Maxted. Tommo has been in excellent form since his shock loss in the first round of the Jennison Cup. Tommo was an unlucky second on the previous Saturday with 38 points, one shy of Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel. Perhaps Tommo is more comfortable in the less personal atmosphere of normal competition than then one on one cut and thruust of match play.
The first round of the Jennison Handicap Match Play Cup was played on Saturday with all eight matches decided. The ever popular colourful local identity Philip “Tommo” Thomson, who was expected to proceed comfortably to the next round, was surprisingly beaten 3 & 2 by the oldest player in the event, Dick Cleland. Tommo was unable to provide an explanation. Dick’s only comment was “It’s the old dog for the hard road”.
In other results Peter Weiss defeated Kobi Wennzel in a thriller 1 up.
Chris “Critta” Waters beat David “Robbie” Robinson 4 & 3.
Richard “Pickles” Matz defeated Mark “Mouldy” Millward in a boilover 3 & 2.
Andy Philips won the match of the day unexpectedly winning over the cool headed Pat Hallion 1 up.
Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel received a forfeit from David “Jack” Webster,
Big Trevor Maxted was successful over Matt McCauley 3 & 2.
The quarter finals will be played on Saturday February 12.
Three players not involved in matches played a stableford with James Hallion 38 points successful over Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel 33 and Ben Dunstan 30.
