Last Tuesday Colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson set a scorching pace completing the front 9 with 23 points and 1 over par 37. Once again Thomo was unable to hold his form on the back 9 scoring 15 points (9 over par 45). This score was, however, sufficient for him to scrape over the line just 1 point ahead of Neil Webster on 37. The mercurial Bob Taylor & Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel both scored 32 while Dick Cleland & Andy Phillips scored 28.

David “Jack” Webster took the Mars Bar with a score of 22, but it should be noted that Jack was suffering severe aches & pains from wrestling with the coring machine on the greens on Monday.

Andy Phillips Returns to Form

Andy Phillips too good again.

Andy Phillips returned to near his best form to narrowly defeat the mercurial Bob Taylor who has now had consecutive good rounds. Andy scored 39 points to Bob’s 38. There was a significant gap to the trio of Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel, Kobi Wenzel and Michael “Tickers” Tickner who all finished on 34. Tarcowie visitor, Klaus Heymann scored 30 and Eddie “The Flying Dutchman” Van Keulen scored 27.

Colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson had a round best forgotten taking the Mars Bar with a mere 23 points.

Colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson sprinted to a commanding early lead in yesterday’s par round. After 9 holes Thomo was 5 up against the card and only 2 strokes over par. Disaster struck on the back 9 with Thomo losing holes 10, 11, & 12 to reduce his score to a modest +2. Another Thomson melt down was avoided as Thomo managed to steady the ship and finish with a score of +3. Runner up was Aarun Bihun on a countback from Andy Spackman both on +1. David “Robie” Robinson & David “Jack” webster both finished square while Michael “Tickers” Tickner followed with -1, followed by Brett Wallis, Kobi Wenzel & Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel all on -3. Things fell away badly after this with Andy Phillips -5, Mark “Mouldy” Millward -6, Dick Cleland -7 and the Mars Bar went to Dick secomb with -8.

The Big Day Out prize (Mars Bar) went to the aptly named Scruffs made up of Chris “Critta” Waters, colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson & Mark “Mouldy” Millward. Mouldy left early to avoid being photographed but we found an appropriate photo in the archives.

Stroke Competition in Summer Program!

Michael "Tickers" Tickner

Players were dismayed when they arrived for golf today to find a stroke competition had been programed. While it could be argued that they should have checked the program and chosen to help their wives in the garden, nobody expects a stroke round in the summer.

The scores were not impressive but Michael “Tickers” Tickner won the day with a net 73, 3 strokes above his handicap. Dick Cleland was runner up with a net 75, a score bad enough to see the acting handicapper add 2 strokes to his handicap.. Andrew Spackman scored a net 76, followed by Kobi Wenzel & Russell “Gus The Good Guy” wenzel with net 79, colourful local identity Philip “Thomo” Thomson net 81, Mark “Mouldy” Millward net 83 & Luke Spackman net 85.

In a remarkable double, frequent visitor, Klaus Heymann from Tarcowie Golf Club won both the count putts competition & the Mars Bar, the first time this has happened.

Kobi Wins Again as Chook Man Chokes

Kobi Wenzel won today’s 9-hole mulligans making it a clean sweep for the school holidays. Coming to the last hole tied with Gordon “The Chook Man” Kakoschke, Kobi held his nerve scoring 2 points while the Chook Man’s game fell apart leaving him scoreless on the last hole. Kobi scored 22 points while, to add insult to injury, young Bob Taylor got up to beat the Chook Man on a countback, both scoring 20 points. Dicks Cleland & Secomb both finished with 18 points. Andrew Hall took the Mars Bar with 13.
