Pat Hallion in Powerful Display

Tuesday April 19

Pat Hallion showed dynamic form in storming home with 39 points. Pat’s front 9 was afflicted by poor chipping and putting, i.e. 2 chips, 2putts; 1 chip 3 putts. Despite this he completed the front 9 with 18 points. On the back 9 Pat’s chipping and putting jumped into gear. He was unstoppable coming home with 21. Runner up was Dick Cleland started well but could not match the Master on the back 9.

Watch out for Pat in the club championships.

In another remarkable change of form, last Tuesday’s winner, Michael Shepley, took the Mars Bar.

Pickles Form Reversal – Stewards Inquiry Called For

Saturday April 16

From 26 stableford points on Tuesday to net 66 on Saturday. This incredible form reversal by Richard “Pickles” Matz requires investigation. Pickles stunned his opponents with a magnificent display of power golf combined with exquisite ball control around the greens. Runner up was the enigmatic Mark “Mouldy” Millward with what would normally be a competitive score of net 69.

The Mars bar went to David “Jack” Webster because 3 players failed to complete the course. I will not name these players but their names are listed at the bottom of the results, should you be interested.

Michael Shepley Begets Prize

Michael Shepley took no chances on Tuesday April 12 of losing in a count back. Michael spreadeagled the field scoring 39 and beating runner up, Neil Webster, by 3 points.

The performance of Richard “Pickles” Matz is causing some concern, as he took the Mars Bar by a comfortable margin.

Saturday April 9: Peter Weiss Victorious in Count Back

Peter Weiss and the unlucky Michael Shepley tied with 38 stableford points on Saturday with Michael now holding the hapless title of most defeats on count back for the year so far. To rub salt into the wound the handicapper took a stroke off Michael while leaving Peter untouched.

The club was delighted to welcome back yet another former club champion in Neville Kelly for the day. Neville, who is now a member of Barmera Golf Club capped off a triumphant return by taking home the Mars Bar, saving another former champion, David “Robbie” Robinson, some embarrassment.

Tommo Chokes

Colourful local identity Philip “Tommo” Thomson breezed through the front 9 with a spectacular 21 stableford points. From here no one could beat Tommo, he would have to lose. And that is exactly what he did. Tommo scored a mere 12 points on the back 9 to finish 5th in a field of 11. Dick Cleland, playing with Tommo, scored a steady 37 points (well below Tommo’s projected target) to win the day. Runner up was Paul Smedley, back from Denmark for a holiday with 36. The handicapper took 2 strokes from Paul while Dick got away with his daily handicap intact.

Michael Shepley took the Mars Bar.

Tommo Shock

Tommo Mars Bar Shock

Tommo fans will be dismayed to hear that their hero took the Mars Bar on Tuesday in an uncharacteristic display. Matters came to a head on the 9th hole when Tommo hit the same tree three times. Tommo later remarked “if it hadn’t been for that tree I would have avoided the Mars Bar”. When it was pointed out that the tree had been there for 50 years, Tommo remarked “I guess I hadn’t noticed it before”.

The competition was won by Russell “Gus The Good Guy” who returned an excellent score of 38. The ever improving Michael Shepley was runner up with 37. The acting handicapper, deducted a stroke from each of the 3 leaders’ handicaps.
