Pat Hallion Breaks Through

The immensely popular Pat Hallion has finally broken through for a win although this can probably be attributed to the ineptitude of his fellow competitors. Pat scored a modest 32 points in absolutely perfect weather conditions which was, however, just enough to defeat runner up Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel on dismal 31. The other eight competitors failed to make 30 points. Trevor Maxted took the Mars Bar.

Three Way Tie in Saturday’s Golf

Despite the gusty conditions, 3 players scored 34 stableford points on Saturday. The antiquated count back system placed Mark “Mouldy” Millward in first place making it 2 Saturdays in a row for the popular school teacher. Second place went to Richard “Pickles” Matz, denying Pickles of a hat trick following wins on Tuesday and Thursday. Third was Dick Cleland who showed a rare glimpse of form as he has been closer to the Mars Bar than the winners circle over the past several months. Peter Weiss took the Mars Bar.

Tommo Scores a Perfect Fluke

Tommo returns to form
Tommo with a magic mushroom

Colourful local identity Philip “Tommo” Thomson scored a hole in one on the short par 8th hole on Saturday. The hole is so short that some believe it belongs on a pitch and put course, nonetheless there was great jubilation at Tommo;s achievement. It should be remembered that many golfers go to their grave having not scored a hole in one so Tommo can be proud as it is not his fault that the hole is so short.

Jack Too Strong

David “Jack” Webster was too strong for Tuesday’s field winning the stableford competition by 3 points. Although Jack’s score was a modest 34 points he showed much of the flair that has been obvious in his game lately and could be a dark horse in the upcoming club championships. The fight to avoid the Mars Bar was far more interesting with four players in the running. The dubious honour went to Trevor Maxted.

Sunday Social Golf Begins

We will be conducting a 10 hole Ambrose social fun event at 10 am on the first Sunday of the month for the next few months. We encourage non members and non golfers to come out for a hit. The entry fee is just $10.

For those unfamiliar, an Ambrose competition is simply a scramble using team handicaps to produce a net score.

In a scramble, all members of your team tee off. Team members compare results and decide which of the drives is best. All team members then play their second shots from the location of the best drive. Repeat this process until the ball is in the hole.

The next 10 hole ambrose will be held on Sunday July 5, so put the date in your diary now.

Results for Sunday’s event:

  • Winners – Gus & Pickles
  • Runners up – Kobi & Bevan
  • Nearest the pin hole 4 – Tommo
  • Nearest the pin hole 11 – Gus
  • Long Drive Men – Tommo
  • Long Drive Junior – Kobi
  • Mars Bar – Bob & Dick
