The Bogisch Handicap Match Play Cup qualifiers has been decided in conjunction with the Club Championship qualifications.
Below is the Bogisch Cup matches for this Saturday, July 8.
If you are unable to play this week you must negotiate another time with your opponent before the next round 29th July. If that cant be done you will need to forfeit your match
The ladies excelled the gentlemen with Jodi Lehmann winning by a comfortable margin and Sharyn “Chookie” Roberts edging out colourful local identity Philip “Titanic” Thomson on a count back for second.
Conditions were perfect for today’s event and only poor golf can explain some of the scores. At the bottom end of the field Dick Cleland only avoided the Mars Bar on a count back with David “Robbie” Robinson receiving the confectionery.
Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel scored 37 points in a steady if not spectacular performance. Runner up was the inconsistent Pat “The Rat” Hallion who scored 36 points despite numerable errors. Andy Phillips, “Pickles” Matz and Dick Cleland were the only other players to score 30 or better.
“Big Trev” Maxted earned the Mars Bar but as Trev left early Michael Shepley ate it for him.
Mark “Mouldy” Millward showed that he is rapidly approaching his full potential, scoring 40 stableford points despite some inexplicably simple mistakes. Runner up was Chris “Critta” Waters with a fine score of 38 which almost certainly would have included mistakes. The rest of the field deserve no mention and you can see how they performed in the full results.
The notoriously inconsistent Pat “The Rat” Hallion collected the Mars Bar.
The Burra Golf Club celebrated 100 years of the golf club moving to the race course with an ambrose event.
In 1922 the club established a 9-hole course “in and around the racecourse. In 1927 it was decided to extend the course to 18 holes at which time it is assumed the land on the Eastern side of the highway owned at the time by Elder Smith & Co was utilised.
The attached map, prepared by Bob Perry, shows the post 1927 layout superimposed upon the current layout.
We all look forward to another centenary ambrose in 2027.

Some very good scores were achieved, especially by the King Slayers and the Cousins, in windy conditions and some rain early in the day. It did become fine and quite warm later in the day. The Men of History showed the benefit of many years of experience remaining calm in the face of some ordeals that would seen most other teams unravel.
If you are interested in the personnel making up any of the teams you can contact Gus “The Good Guy” Wenzel on 0439 846 421.
David “Jack” Webster defeated defending champion, Matt Opperman, in a hard fought battle going to the 35th hole & winning 2 & 1. Today’s result reverses last year’s result.
All of the other matches were closely fought requiring either 35 or 36 holes to get a result. In the A Grade Plate Pat Hallion prevailed over Mark “Mouldy” Millward 2 & 1
In B Grade Richard “Pickles” Matz took the long hitting Chris “Critta” Waters to the 36th before losing 1 down.
The C Grade final also went to the 36th hole before Trevor Maxted prevailed over Peter Weiss 1 up.
Congratulations to all players for providing such exiting and well fought matches. All the photos were taken before the start of play which probably explains why everyone except Pat Hallion is smiling.
Andy Phillips scored a strong 36 points to win today’s stableford comfortably. Runner up was Russell “Gus The Good Guy” Wenzel with 33. Derek Fletcher took the Mars Bar.
There was some movement on the leader board on Saturday with the big mover being Boh “Van Pelt” Wall while Matt Opperman consolidated his position at the top of the board with the best round of the day with 82 off the stick. Boh scored a sizzling 83 improving his best round tally by 11 shots and rocketing into 3rd place overall. Boh also won the day’s handicap event convincingly with a net 69, 3 shots clear of Kobi Wenzel, Matt Opperman & Bob Taylor. The Mars Bar went to Bevan Ladhams. The field of 21 players was the best for quite some time. The final qualifying round will be played next Saturday giving players their last chance to move up the ladder.
The first mulligans competition since the corona virus outbreak took place today with 5 players taking part. Richard “Pickles” Matz continued where he left off on Tuesday scoring another win with 20 stableford points. Runner up was Bob Taylor with 17. The remaining scores suggest that some members have got some work to do to restore their game to near their best. Andy Phillips scored 14, Dick Cleland 12 and former mulligan specialist, Dick Secomb, took the Mars Bar with 9.
Mulligans competitions will continue to be held at 9:00 for 9:30 am on Thursdays.
Richard “Pickles” Matz produced a solid score of 35 stableford points to win Tuesday’s competition comfortably. Runner up was Chris “Critta” Waters with an ordinary score of 32. New member, Bevan Ladhams, obviously still finding his way around the course, took the Mars Bar.
