In 1922 the club established a 9-hole course “in and around the racecourse. In 1927 it was decided to extend the course to 18 holes at which time it is assumed the land on the Eastern side of the highway owned at the time by Elder Smith & Co was utilised.
The attached map, prepared by Bob Perry, shows the post 1927 layout superimposed upon the current layout.

Some very good scores were achieved, especially by the King Slayers and the Cousins, in windy conditions and some rain early in the day. It did become fine and quite warm later in the day. The Men of History showed the benefit of many years of experience remaining calm in the face of some ordeals that would seen most other teams unravel.
If you are interested in the personnel making up any of the teams you can contact Gus “The Good Guy” Wenzel on 0439 846 421.
Former club champion, Boh Wall, Now a member of the Barossa Golf Club returned to show that he was still a force to be reckoned with. Kobi Wenzel lead the field after 18 holes with 79, with Boh 3 strokes back. Boh showed his metal as he steadied on the final 9 while Kobi faltered.

The annual Russell Nichols trophy was held on August 20. Mark “Mouldy” Millward won the competition comprehensively with a fine display of power and control to score 36 stableford points in cold windy conditions. As a comparison the best score from the rest of the field was 32 points. Mouldy’s score could have been a couple points better if not for some inexplicably missed short putts.
Golf Australia is running this competition in conjunction to the Australian Open. Any 9 hole score recorded between July 1 and September 30 and submitted to GolfLink will count as an entry to the competition. The committee has decided to play a 9 hole competition in lieu of the Mulligan competition until September 30.
